The massively popular TV Come Dancing series is having a beneficial effect on social habits and health in Ammanford. More and more are tripping the light fantastic with numbers attending a series of dances at the  Amman Centre in Ammanford doubling this year. The downside is there there is a shortage of men stepping forward on to the dance floor to take their partners by the hand. So the appeal is out this Easter for more to come forward to strut their stuff - just as Robbie Savage and Russell Grant did on Come Dancing. Community Service Volunteers’ Welcome Friends Project and Age Cymru Sir Gar ’s Befriending Links have teamed up with dance instructor Jon Dunbar to host the events. There's a night of celebration at the Amman Centre in Ammanford on Friday night. Lleisiau'r Cwm are celebrating 15 years this year and Cantata are celebrating the S4C title of Female Choir of Wales. Catrin Hughes, from Ysgol y Strade, conducts both choirs so the event promises to be an evening to remember. Concert details: Amman Centre Ammanford, Friday, July 15th, 7.30 till late. Artists in the first half- Cantata, Lleisiau'r Cwm. Presenter - Heledd Cynwal S4C. Auctioneer - Glynog Davies. Star guests in the second half - Fat Barry's Soul Band. Raffle and auction on the evening - proceeds towards Bobath Cymru (celebral palsy unit). Tickets - £10 (including buffet) available from Catrin Hughes (Ysgol y Strade) and members of both choirs.

Ammanford Neighbourhood Policing Team is holding a multicultural event. It is hoped to attract people from different ethnic backgrounds and diverse groups within the Amman Valley. The event is being held on Sunday, February 13 between 1pm and 4pm at the Amman Centre in Ammanford. Groups are being encouraged to bring along a sample of their culture to share with others such as music, entertainment, food and traditional costume. A similar event was held last year and was extremely successful. NPT Sergeant Teresa Ross said: “We are constantly aiming to improve confidence and contact with the police especially with the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams. This event will allow people from a wide range of diverse groups to meet their local officers and socialise with other minority groups.” The event is funded by the Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership which includes the council, police and other agencies working together to make the county a safer place.
