Cancer services in Pembrokeshire continue to benefit from the amazing fundraising efforts of Elly’s Ward 10 Flag Appeal, which has recently passed the £25,000 mark. Bernardine Rees, Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board said: "I want to say a huge thank you to Elly and her family for their fantastic fundraising efforts. “Elly's energy and enthusiasm is incredible. Pembs RVS Thank You Tea Bernadine Rees and RVS - Hafan Derwen Hywel Dda University Health Board is committed to continuing the close relationship with the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) by finding new roles for its volunteers, so that they can continue supporting patients at hospitals across mid and west Wales as they have done for many years. The Chair of the Health Board, Bernadine Rees, has been meeting with volunteers to discuss opportunities that are being created to enhance the service provided to patients at Bronglais, Withybush, Glangwili and Prince Philip hospitals. The health board has committed to retaining the services of the RVS following the introduction of new cafe and retail services on all four acute sites, which the RVS had previously provided. New for 2016, the Employee or Team of the Month scheme is set to replace the previous Chair’s Certificate of Commendation. Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board (UHB), Bernardine Rees, wants staff, patients, service users and the public to nominate those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, to shed light on the fantastic work being done around the UHB’s patch. She explained: “Our staff are amazing at what they do and I think it’s important they get the recognition they deserve. Llwynhendy Health Centre in Llanelli has become the first GP practice in Carmarthenshire to receive the Investors in Carers Silver level award and the first in the Hywel Dda area to achieve silver level following the introduction of the Carers Strategies (Wales) Measure in 2012. The Investors in Carers scheme is designed to help GP practices focus on and improve their carer awareness and enhance the help and support they give Carers. Llwynhendy Health Centre has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to providing appropriate support and consideration to its patients who are Carers following its Bronze accreditation in March 2014. A pharmacy in Aberaeron has become the first in Wales to gain recognition for its work with carers. Mrs Bernadine Rees OBE, Chair of Hywel Dda University Health Board presented staff from Boots the Chemist with their Investors in Carers (IiC) Certificate. The store is the first pharmacy in Wales to gain this accreditation for its work in identifying and supporting unpaid Carers in the local community. The IiC scheme is being operated across the Hywel Dda region with nearly all GP surgeries in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire already gaining accreditation. The scheme is now being rolled out to pharmacies and selected hospital wards across the region.
