Llanelli Rotary team present cheques worth £2600 to Prince Philip Hospital team

The team at Llanelli Rotary Club presented two cheques, worth a total of £2600, to the prostate cancer team at the urology department at Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital. In the top photo, Llanelli Rotary President Mark Evans (right) presented a cheque for £2200, the proceeds of his annual Carten 100 charity bike ride between Cardiff and Tenby. In the second photo, Llanelli Rotary Club associate member Maxine Walters presented a cheque for £400 in memory of her late husband, Llanelli Rotarian Monro Walters. The money was raised at a charity art show featuring Maxine's paintings. Included in both photos are members of the urology department at Prince Philip Hospital, including consultants Mr Moosa and Mr Ng. Also pictured, top, are Llanelli Rotarians Hugh Thomas, Susan Roberts and Maxine Walters.

State-of-the-art scanner unveiled at Llanelli’s Prince Philip Hospital

Urology consultants at Llanelli’s Prince Philip Hospital have proudly unveiled a state-of-the-art scanner - worth £117,000 - that is set to put the University Health Board (UHB)’s male cancer services “at the top of the class”. The unveiling marks the pinnacle of months and indeed years of community fundraising across the region to update the hospital’s existing prostate cancer diagnosis capacity, allowing consultants to use imaging and perform targeted biopsies that hadn’t previously been possible. Consultant Urologist Mr Yeung Ng said: “When we began the fundraising campaign with Prince Philip’s League of Friends in late 2013, the goal was much more modest. Golden donation for hospital from Newcastle Emlyn

Glangwili Hospital’s urology department has been the recipient of a golden donation thanks to the generosity of Newcastle Emlyn couple, Mr Elgan and Mrs Margaret Jones. To celebrate their 50 years of marriage, Mr and Mrs Jones asked friends and family to forgo presents and asked for a donation instead to thank the team who had cared for Mr Jones. A fantastic £800 was raised and Mr and Mrs Jones recently returned to Glangwili in Carmarthen to present their cheque to the team. Mr Jones said: “We wanted to thank the wonderful team here, Wendy, Julie, Linda, Mike and all the staff. We had a lovely meal with our family and friends and we’d like to thank everyone for their generosity.” Mr Moosa, Urologist, Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “I wish to convey my sincere thanks to Mr and Mrs Jones for choosing to mark such an occassion as special as their golden wedding anniversary to support our service and to their friends and family for their wonderful generosity.” Every day patie...
