Tweeters running in the annual Carmarthen Town Mayor’s Fun Run are being urged to send in their selfies. Fun runners can tweet their pictures to the council’s sport and leisure team @sportcarms using the hashtag #SelfieSirGar. Tweeting photos on the day or during training leading up to the event is welcomed. The best three photos will win a prize and all pictures tweeted to us will be displayed in the Oriel Myrddin Gallery and leisure centres after the event. The race is being held on Monday, May 4 and St Peter's Hall will be open from 8am for those entering on the day. Race organiser, Noelwyn Daniel said: "The beauty of the Carmarthen Mayor's Fun Run races is that they take place in the heart of the town centre, affording great opportunities for spectators to cheer on the runners. Other tweets made over a series of weeks by Independent Carmarthenshire councillor John Jenkins made reference to a sex toy, joked about paedophilia and referred to a well-known footballer as a “budding pervert”.

The Welshman who puts the ‘Cwtsh’ into comedy has sparked an internet debate on the use of the word. Should the favourite Welsh word for a hug be a ‘Cwtsh’ or a ‘Cwtch?’ – that is the question. According to Phil Evans, the resident ‘Hug-meister’ of Wales, the correct spelling of the word is Cwtsh. “I am sure there will be plenty of Welsh scholars out there willing to say different, but in my book it should always end in ‘sh’ rather than ‘ch’,” said Evans. The debate started when Evans billed his St Dwynwen’s Day gig at the Pontardawe Arts Centre as ‘Comedy and Cwtshes’. “I’ve always been adamant that the correct version is ‘Cwtsh’, so it has been interesting to follow the debate on social media sites. “In particular, I’ve been interested to see that Huw Irranca-Davies, MP for Ogmore, has been having his say on the debate. “I think it would be better if we stopped short of a Parliamentary debate or a Prime Minister’s Question on the matter, but it is very interesting to hear people’s ...

Carmarthenshire residents can now keep up to date with the latest council news on social networking site Twitter. The site will allow people to get instant updates on council news and services. Twitter users can get up to the minute news updates by following @CarmsCCPress. Executive Board member for communications, Cllr Pam Palmer, said: “Social networking sites are being increasingly used by people as a way of keeping up to date with the latest news, so it is exciting to be able to reach out to our residents in this way. “Being able to give instant news in this way is particularly useful when we need to report any disruptions in services, but is also a very useful avenue to communicate news about events.” Twitter is the second social networking site to be used by the council, which also has a strong presence on Facebook.
