The road at the junction of the A4138 at Halfway, Llanelli, is to be resurfaced by contractors working on behalf of Carmarthenshire County Council. Work will take place overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. A road closure will be in place from 7pm to 3am affecting Glyncoed Terrace and Pemberton Road for the duration of the works, with diversions signposted. Work is expected to take 10 nights, weather permitting. Cllr Hazel Evans, Executive Board Member for Transport, said: “These are essential works on a very busy junction. Whilst we are carrying out the works after peak hours to minimise disruption, we appreciate this will still inconvenience road users and residents. We would like to apologise for this inconvenience, and thank members of the public in advance for their cooperation.”

Resurfacing works will be carried out at Eastgate roundabout in Llanelli on Friday and Saturday evening. The essential roadworks will take place between 6pm and midnight on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, in order to minimise disruption to the public. The works will be carried out on a lane by lane basis to maintain traffic flow. Executive Board member for Technical Services Cllr Colin Evans said: “The work has been programmed to take place over Friday and Saturday nights to keep any disruption to a minimum on this busy roundabout."

Drivers are being asked to allow extra times for journeys in and around Llanelli because of a series of unavoidable road works. While the long-running Welsh Water Rainscape works are coming to an end on the main road sections around Asda, other drainage and road safety measures are being installed near New Dock Stars and Sandy Road. Because works are advanced on delivering the new Ysgol y Strade school extension, work to construct a road crossing for surface water work has been brought forward to start November 10, due for completion by November 19. At New Dock Stars the crossing point is to be improved. A new pedestrian crossing is under construction to serve Coedcae School, where the civil works were undertaken using temporary lights at half term. A proposed mini roundabout will also be installed in Sandy Road at its junction with Denham Avenue, as part of the agreed traffic calming measures for the Strade school extension. Motorists in Carmarthenshire are being urged to drive carefully as essential road maintenance  works are carried out. Surface dressing works are carried out annually by the council to make the roads safer and better to use. It involves applying a coating of hot bitumen onto the road surface followed by layers of hard stone chippings. A mechanical sweeper then removes the excess chippings after a day or so. Executive Board Member for Street Scene Cllr Colin Evans said although it caused some inconvenience for drivers, it was an essential maintenance operation. “This work prevents water seeping into the road foundation and weakening it, thus reducing the chances of potholes developing, and prolongs the life expectancy of the road,” he said. “It is the most cost effective method and allows traffic to drive over the newly laid surface almost immediately. “Following treatment, the skid resistance value of the road surface is restored when the surface was previously smooth or slippery....

Drivers are being urged to avoid the Pensarn area of Carmarthen at peak times this week if possible due to roadworks. There have been significant delays during peak time (8:30am-9:15am and 3:30pm to 5:30pm) on the A484 in and around the Morrison’s roundabout area due to road works carried out by Wales and West Utilities (Gas) and the contractors for the new Pensarn development. Both organisations would like to apologise for the inconvenience and thank everyone for their co-operation. They hope to improve the situation by next week. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes if possible.

Essential road maintenance works are to be carried out in the Trostre area of Llanelli. The works on the W5598 Trostre retail roundabout to the B4304 Lower Trostre Road roundabout are due to start on Monday, October 25 and are being carried out by Carmarthenshire County Council. The works are being undertaken to alleviate flooding in the area. They will be undertaken during normal weekday working hours with restrictions on weekend working to avoid disruption during this busy time. The scheme will be undertaken in two phases. Phase one is expected to last approximately seven weeks and will hopefully be completed before Christmas. Phase two will start following the Christmas period and January sales to avoid disruption to the general public. Area manager Mario Cresci said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to the general public as a result of these works, we will endeavour to keep delays and disruption to a minimum.”

Work to improve the junction at East End Square, Pembroke, is due to start on Monday, 10th May. Work at the busy junction - which serves the A4075 Holyland Road, Main Street, Station Road and Well Hill - involves the realignment of the carriageway as well as provision of a shared use path and demolition of the St Michaels Church Hall extensions. The main contractor will be Evan Pritchard Contractors Limited with Atkins as consulting engineer, supervising the work which is being carried out on behalf of Pembrokeshire County Council. The scheme has been programmed to minimise the use of traffic management with temporary traffic signals to be used only when required. This arrangement will protect the workforce and control the flow of traffic while limiting disruption to road users.
