A Carmarthen farmer has been prosecuted for moving cattle while his farm was under TB restrictions. David Grant Hartman pleaded guilty at Llanelli Magistrates Court on Friday to four offences under the TB (Wales) Order 2010 in a prosecution brought by Carmarthenshire County Council. The court was told that Mr Hartman’s farm, Trebersed Farm at Travellers Rest, was put under TB restrictions which are supposed to prevent the movement of cattle onto or off a farm. These restrictions are put in place to reduce the potential of the spread of TB and to reduce existing breakdowns. Despite these restrictions the defendant moved dairy cows onto his farm on three separate occasions. The investigation also discovered that cows declared as inconclusive reactors, animals that tests had neither confirmed to have TB nor shown to be free of TB, which must be isolated from the rest of the herd, had not been isolated as required. Positive test results for tuberculosis (TB) at a Llanelli school has prompted the offer of a screening of all pupils and staff. In October and December, 339 pupils and 100 members of staff at Ysgol y Strade were screened for TB, as part of investigations by Public Health Wales and the Hywel Dda Health Board. This occurred after a staff member was diagnosed with the infection. Following theses screening sessions, six pupils and three members of staff gave positive blood test results. Hywel Dda Health Board | TB screening in Rhondda Cynon Taf A man from the Rhondda Cynon Taf area has been diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis He has been recovering at home and has not been admitted to hospital. The household contacts of the individual have been offered TB screening by the Respiratory Infections Team at Cwm Taf Health Board and Public Health Wales. Following the results of the screening of household contacts, the Respiratory Infections Team at Cwm Taf Health Board and Public Health Wales will review whether further screening might be required for people outside of the household.
