Girls at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman make their mark in football

Girls at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman have gone to extra time to prove they’re ahead of the game when it comes to football. Carmarthenshire County Council’s Active Young People Team has been working closely with the school’s PE department to provide after-school football sessions every Thursday. More than 30 girls started playing during the autumn term, and with regular coaching, team work and determination they’ve gone from strength to strength with a string of achievements already in the back of the net. First, they competed in the Welsh Schools FA Cup competition and a local schools indoor competition where they progressed onto the next round. Several of the girls then joined their community Club, Ammanford Juniors AFC, and through engaging with the club coaches and training with the club, the school team stepped up a level. Carmarthenshire children start summer holidays with a splash

Children across Carmarthenshire will start their summer holidays with a splash! Carmarthenshire County Council’s grounds maintenance team are preparing to fill the paddling pools at Crown Park and Parc Howard in Llanelli, which Llanelli Town Council has agreed to fund. The paddling pools will open from Saturday, July 18, and will be open with an attendant from 10am to 6pm seven days a week during the school summer holidays. As well as the paddling pools, splash pads managed by community volunteers at Havelock Park and Penyfan Park in Llanelli are already in operation, as is the popular splash pad at Ammanford Park, which is managed by Ammanford Town Council . The splash pads work on an automatic timer system from 10am to 7pm seven days a week.
