Civic receptions honour East Wales Rotary clubs

In celebration of Rotary International's 110 years of accomplishments around the world two Mayoral receptions were held recently. The Mayor of Torfaen, Cllr Mandy Owen, hosted a reception for the Presidents of her four local Rotary Clubs – Cwmbran; Cwmbran Vale; Henllys and Pontypool to recognise their club members' outstanding contribution to the area. Later in the day, it was the turn of the Right Worshipful Mayor the Mayor of Newport, Cllr Matthew Evans, to ask the Presidents of the Rotary Clubs of Caerleon; Newport; Newport St. Woolos and Newport Uskmouth to pass on his thanks to their members for their service to the community by hosting afternoon tea in the Mayor's Parlour. The Rotary Presidents were accompanied by the District Governor of Rotary in Southern Wales, Sandra Townsend, Past District Governor Michael Rye and Assistant Governor for the Newport and Torfaen Area Maggie Hughes. Date set for annual Rotary District 1150 bowls tournament

The annual Rotary District 1150 (South Wales) bowls tournament will take place in Llandrindod Wells next month. Details are as follows - DISTRICT 1150 91st ANNUAL BOWLS TRIPLES COMPETITION LLANDRINDOD WELLS Date: Tuesday 8th July 2014 Lunch: Metropole Hotel at 12.30 p.m. Bowls Competition: Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club, Rock Park 2.30 p.m. Teams of three players each playing three woods. Rotary District Governor visits Llanelli club

The members of Llanelli Rotary Club were honoured with a visit by their District Governor (area boss) at their weekly meeting at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli. David Curtis is the current chairman of District 1150 (South Wales) of Rotary International Great Britain and Ireland. Mr Curtis is a member of the Pontllanfraith, Blackwood, Gwent, club. He is a former international gymnast and trampolining champion. He was welcomed to the meeting by Llanelli Rotary Club President Ken Abban. Mr Abban said it was an honour to greet Mr Curtis and to listen to hear him speak about Rotary's work in South Wales. Mr Curtis praised the Llanelli club for their fund-raising efforts and for their many community projects. He said he was delighted to attend the second oldest club in Wales. The vote of thanks to Mr Curtis was given by past District Governor and past Llanelli Rotary President Mr John (JC) Williams MBE. Website - http://www.llanellirotary.com
