Recruitment Open Day at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth

Bronglais Hospital is making its mark as an excellent place to fulfil medical, nursing and other healthcare careers. Hywel Dda University Health Board is promoting the hospital and all it can offer at a Recruitment Open Day to be held at the hospital on Friday 14 October 2016 between 10am – 2pm. The day will showcase the varied roles on offer at the hospital and in Ceredigion, as well as the many services provided at the hospital which are innovative and amongst the best in the UK. For example, the hospital has come top in Wales in a UK wide audit of care for patients undergoing emergency laparotomy for the second year running. The first Open Day at Llanelli’s ambitious Goods Shed project was a huge success. St Barnabas Hall was full for a consultation meeting about the plans for the derelict Llanelli Railway Goods Shed building in nearby Marsh Street. And, despite the wild and windy weather, enthusiastic supporters of the project joined special guided tours of the site – the first time in years the public has been allowed access inside. “The day was a great success and you couldn’t fail to be impressed with the interest and the enthusiasm shown by the local community,” said Goods Shed project officer Robert Lloyd. “All those who took part in the tours were surprised at the scale of the project. Aberystwyth University opens its doors to the local community

The chance to see a banana tree, meet a humanoid robot, get some free personal fitness training and read the news on television are just some of the attractions on offer at Aberystwyth University’s community open day, Access All Areas, which takes place on Saturday 21 June. Now in its second year, Access All Areas this year offers a varied and exciting programme of activities at six locations; Aberystwyth Arts Centre, the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies (Parry-Williams building), the University’s Sport Centre and the Botany Gardens on the Penglais campus, and the Old College and the Bandstand in town. And for those who wish to visit exhibits on the Penglais campus and in town, there will be free travel on the 03 bus service that runs at regular intervals between the University, the National Library and the town. Open Day to celebrate landmark at Ty Bryngwyn Hospice

Ty Bryngwyn’s In-patient Unit has now been open for 10 years, providing specialist palliative inpatient care for patients in Carmarthenshire. The staff and trustees of Ty Bryngwyn hospice would very much like to thank the community for their support over the past 10 years. They are holding an open day on Saturday, October 12, at Ty Bryngwyn, to which everyone is cordially invited. The event will be opened by a local celebrity at 2pm with entertainment provided throughout the afternoon by Cor Meibion Llanelli, Llanelli Male Voice Choir. Stalls, raffles and free refreshments will also be available before the event closes at 4pm. The day will take the form of a celebration to recognise the 10 years of service provided from Ty Bryngwyn and to say thank you to the hospice appeal's many supporters. Please note that limited parking will be available close to the hospice at Bryngwyn School.

Aberystwyth University’s first community day a resounding success

More than 400 visitors attended Aberystwyth University’s first community open day, Access All Areas. A wide variety of activities, exhibitions and demonstrations were on show during the day, which highlighted the exciting work taking place at the University, and the individuals involved. The BeachLab event at the Bandstand also proved to be a real success drawing families and individuals fascinated by the Computer Science Department’s robots and the robotic orchestra, made of discarded instruments and controlled by two tiny Raspberry Pi computers. Many also took advantage of the guided tour of the new National Plant Phenomics Centre, housed at the University’s Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) in Gogerddan. Other activities included live music performances, micro-classes, tours, experiments, sports taster sessions, culinary demonstrations, face painting and web games. Open Day at Ammanford Fire Station

Ammanford Fire Station is hosting an open day next weekend with fun and entertainment for all the family. The event is taking place on October 6 from 10am-3pm, and it is being organised by the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service. There is no entry fee and all monies raised will be donated to the Firefighters Charity, which is the UK’s provider of services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for serving and retired firefighters and their families. There will be a variety of games, activities, refreshments and demonstrations throughout the day, including a chip pan fire and community safety and road traffic collision displays. There will also be stalls selling merchandise such as Blaze Bear toys and Children’s Fire Helmets. Local firefighters and community safety staff will be on hand to chat to visitors about the fire and rescue and work in helping to keep communities safe from fire. Carmarthen Leisure Centre has a free-for-all open day on Sunday, September 16. All-comers are invited to find a sport or activity to continue the inspirational spirit of the Olympics. Open Day planned at Tywi Centre

The Tywi Centre is opening its doors for an open day next month and inviting people to find out more about Heritage. This event on Saturday April 21, which is free to all visitors, will open between 10am and 5pm will be held at the Tywi Centre, Dinefwr Farm, Llandeilo. Heritage can mean different things to different people, which is why a diverse programme of talks, demonstrations and workshops has been organised for the day. Anyone interested in old buildings can learn about the traditional skills that are crucial for maintaining and repairing old buildings appropriately. See Inside Manufacturing open day at Schaeffler UK gives pupils a taste of a career in manufacturing : News from Schaeffler (UK) Ltd - INA FAG More than 60 pupils from local secondary schools took part in a 'See Inside Manufacturing' open day event at Schaeffler UK’s automotive engine component manufacturing plant in Llanelli. The event was part of the UK Government’s See Inside Manufacturing Initiative, a nationwide ‘open days’ programme to help improve the image of UK manufacturing to young people, with the objective of attracting the brightest and best talent into a career in manufacturing and engineering. The event at Schaeffler UK was arranged in conjunction with the local college, Coleg Sir Gar, and was facilitated by Schaeffler’s own apprentices and toolmakers.

Menter Open Day is a success

Menter Cwm Gwendraeth has held a highly successful open day at the Gwendraeth Resource Centre in Pontyberem to promote IT and other courses available in 2011-2012. The Resource Centre has a range of IT courses - keyboard skills, IT for beginners, Word and file management and E-mail and Internet; Multi Media courses – digital camera, digital imaging, Photoshop 1 and 2, Foundation in Multi Media and Level 1 in Further Technology; Welsh, and Spanish. The courses range from four to 30 weeks in length with a mix of daytime and evening courses. Julie Nicholas of Menter Cwm Gwendraeth said: “The open day was very successful. There are still a number of places available on some of the courses for anyone who is interested.”
