Free wi-fi has been introduced in Llanelli Town Centre thanks to a partnership between Carmarthenshire County Council and Llanelli Town Council. An external wi-fi access point outside the Hub covering Stepney Square is now up-and-running. The Town Council has paid for the installation of boosters which enable access to the County Council system on Stepney Square. Town Mayor, Cllr Bill Thomas said: “I'm delighted that we have been able to introduce free wi-fi in the town centre. My colleague Winston Lemon suggested this idea some time ago and after considering a number of options we have finally been able to deliver. I'm sure it will be appreciated by residents and visitors alike.” Carmarthenshire County Council Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “This is exactly the kind of initiative I want to see provided through the Regeneration Task Force. Free wi-fi access is now available at Ammanford Library following recent IT developments. To use the service people must be aged 18 or over and must be a library card holder. It is free to become a member of Carmarthenshire libraries, all that is needed is a form of identification such as a driving licence, passport or council tax bill. Members can then sign up for the wi-fi services and will be issued with a unique password which will allow them to use their own wireless enabled devices anywhere in the building. The password must be used on each occasion to access the wi-fi facilities. The free service offered within Carmarthenshire Libraries is an open unsecured and filtered network provided for the convenience of members and its use is solely at personal risk. There are no printing facilities available and devices must be battery operated.

Welsh cakes come with free wi-fi at the National Botanic Garden of Wales since the attraction went from having the slowest broadband connection in Carmarthenshire to one of the fastest. The restaurant and coffee shops at the Garden have been transformed from ‘Not’ spots to wi-fi hot-spots thanks to a partnership with ResQ IT and Telecoms, of Cross Hands, and TFL communications, in Pembroke. Head of facilities at the Garden Clive Edwards says: “This is very good news indeed for the two-million or so people who drive past the Garden’s entrance every year; they can now stop for a fabulous cup of coffee, Welsh cakes and wi-fi at our Gatehouse café – and they don’t even have to pay to get into the Garden.” Managing Director of ResQ, Ian Muxworthy, said: “This is a real partnership deal.
