Multi-cultural event planned for diverse Ammanford communities | Dyfed Powys Police | Heddlu Dyfed Powys Neighbourhood police in Ammanford are gearing up for a multi-cultural event which aims to bring together people from different backgrounds and with different nationalities and religious beliefs.

The Llanelli Choral Society will be representing the town and county at this weekend’s Llanelli Multicultural Weekend as organised by Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services. The Llanelli Choral Society, under the direction of its founder John Hywel Williams, will give a performance to invited guests and dignitaries which will include Wales’ First Minister The Rt. Hon. Carwyn Jones AM. The Llanelli Choral Society recently gave a performance at the Cardiff Millennium Centre as part of Black History Month and the success of this performance led to the invitation to representing the town at the Multicultural Weekend. “We are proud and delighted to participate in this exciting community event”, explains Cerith Owen, Chairman. “The Society is founded on the vision to be a music community from the community for the community.” This weekend’s performance will be yet another exciting event in the Llanelli Choral Society’s ever growing schedule of prestigious of events. More than 200 people attended a multicultural event in Ammanford. People from a number of diverse minority groups within the Amman area attended with nationalities including Welsh, English, French, Turkish, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Greek, Chinese, Italian, Bangladeshi and Philippino. The event, which was held at the Amman Centre, was organised by Ammanford Neighbourhood Policing Team and funded by the Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership. The aim of the day was to bring people from different strands of diversity together to improve community engagement and cohesion. Members of the community also had an opportunity to speak to local neighbourhood policing officers and influence policing priorities in their areas. In total 232 people went along and took part in a range of different activities. Ammanford Neighbourhood Policing Team is holding a multicultural event. It is hoped to attract people from different ethnic backgrounds and diverse groups within the Amman Valley. The event is being held on Sunday, February 13 between 1pm and 4pm at the Amman Centre in Ammanford. Groups are being encouraged to bring along a sample of their culture to share with others such as music, entertainment, food and traditional costume. A similar event was held last year and was extremely successful. NPT Sergeant Teresa Ross said: “We are constantly aiming to improve confidence and contact with the police especially with the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams. This event will allow people from a wide range of diverse groups to meet their local officers and socialise with other minority groups.” The event is funded by the Carmarthenshire Community Safety Partnership which includes the council, police and other agencies working together to make the county a safer place.
