Christmas event for Ty Cymorth Carmarthen and District Hospice Appeal - Wednesday  December 3, Christmas Coffee Morning with mince pies at the Ivy Bush Royal Hotel Carmarthen, starts at 10am. To be opened by Dr Llinos Roberts. To include a Christmas raffle and stalls. Tickets at the door or available from any committee members at £1.50. Free car-parking. The generosity of Carmarthenshire people was praised as the Health Minister opened the new Ty Cymorth Hospice for specialist palliative care at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen.  The hospice is based in a building opposite the hospital’s Emergency Unit and has been completely renovated and extended by Hywel Dda University Health Board’s in-house design team thanks to £265,000 raised by the Ty Cymorth Hospice Appeal. It will provide fit-for-purpose physical, psychological, spiritual and social support; occupational therapy; and physiotherapy for people who need palliative care in Carmarthen and surrounding area. Volunteers who have helped patients in Carmarthenshire have been recognised for their long service. Evelyn Fowler and Margaret Ray both volunteer through the university health board’s Volunteering for Health project at Ty Cymorth in Carmarthen. At 92, Evelyn is Volunteering for Health’s oldest volunteer and has been volunteering at Ty Cymorth since her husband died 12 years ago. Evelyn’s husband was looked after by the service and volunteering was a way of giving something back and supporting other patients with a terminal condition. Margaret has been volunteering with Ty Cymorth since the service opened in 1995. She provides an opportunity for patients to sit and talk and provided them with refreshments Recently retired volunteer Joan Lewis was also recognised for the hours she has given. Glangwili Hospital Chaplaincy Department and Ty Cymorth Day Hospice in Carmarthen have arranged a celebration to remember family and friends who are no longer with us. During the Christmas season we sometimes overlook the feelings of emptiness and sadness it brings to people who grieve the loss of loved ones. The service, which will take place at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, is open to those of all faiths and of no faith, providing space and time to recall and reflect. There will be readings and a variety of music from local schools and musicians. The tranquillity and ambiance of the gardens will provide the perfect atmosphere to remember, appreciate and to honour a loved one at rest. People will have the opportunity to light their own candle in remembrance of their loved ones and place in the Christmas crib. A candle will also be lit in appreciation for those who have donated organs and in so doing given others an opportunity to live. The service will be held at the Nat...

Members of Carmarthen Town AFC are carrying on a tradition started by former treasurer Nigel Williams, who sadly passed away recently.  Nigel was instrumental in organising charity cycle events during his long relationship with the club. These events will continue in honour of Nigel. This year, club members will be cycling to raise money for Ty Cymorth (the club's nominated charity for this year) and the Carmarthen Town AFC Community Programme. The Ty Cymorth Day Care Centre in Carmarthen provides a service for people facing a life changing illness and their families. Their aim is to enrich the person’s quality of life, promote their independence, offer opportunities to empower the person to make their own personal choices within a safe therapeutic environment and provide education, information, support and advice for both patients and families. In an event held at the Carmarthen Town Football Club Community Centre in Richmond Park, the club launched its charity events for the 2011/12 season. In an evening superbly arranged by hard-working Club President Jeff Thomas, the audience was entertained by harpist Elan Ward from Ysgol Bro Myrddin, while the Rev Towyn Jones told some extraordianry tales. The evening was compered by Peter Hughes Griffiths. This season’s charity is Ty Cymorth, the local hospice. Supporters of this charity were present at the evening and were impressed with the facilities and welcome at the Community Centre. This was the first in a series of events the club intends to hold during the coming months to raise funds for the hospice. Club president Mr Thomas said: "I believe we have a role within the community not only as a football club. It is our duty to support charities within the Carmarthen area and I will lead this campaign for the coming season."
