Ammanford Rotary Club members are hosting a special rugby-themed evening on Monday November 7 at Ammanford Civic Hall (7pm). The evening will feature Llanelli, Wales and British Lions rugby legend Derek Quinnell 'And Friends'. The evening is a fundraiser for the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable Trust. If you would like to support this event, tickets are £20 and, besides 'Derek And Friends', the evening consists of a two-course meal, raffle and secret auction. Opposition to fracking is far stronger in Wales than in England. A survey [1] published this week reveals that 48% of people in Wales are opposed to fracking in their area, and only 38% would support it. With opposition to fracking considerably less in England at 39%, campaigners believe Wales must now follow a different path to the pro-fracking stance of the Westminster government. Gareth Clubb, Director of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said: “This finding will come as no surprise to many. Every application for dirty, dangerous fracking in Wales has met with strong local opposition, despite a barrage of propaganda from the UK Government and its industry friends. “Wales has suffered the scars of fossil fuel exploitation for decades. The Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli will be hosting the annual Pretty in Pink fundraising event on October 18 from 7pm. The event has been organised by the ladies of Ray Gravell & Friends Charitable Trust. This year all proceeds from the evening are for the Ty Bryngwyn Hospice in Llanelli. The trust aims to raise £10,000 to donate to the hospice. There will be drinks on arrival before taking a seat in the Alexander Suite for a three course dinner. During the meal, there will be a range of fashion shows courtesy of Outfit, Nanette’s and Mossies. The tickets are £26 per person and must be booked in advance by contacting the venue. (March 21- 25) The fashion extravaganza will include live shows and events across the town, covering all range of clothing, from evening wear to bridal, sporting, and casual. Top models, including local celebrities, tv presenters, Scarlets rugby players, and one or two surprises, have been lined up to add an extra sparkle to the proceedings. The first ever clothes swapping party has been held in Llanelli. The ‘Top Swap’ swishing event was organised as part of the upcoming Llanelli Fashion Week. It was held at the Stradey Park Hotel and saw savvy shoppers swap clothes, shoes and accessories they no longer wanted and going home with a whole new wardrobe without breaking the bank. The event was supported by Carmarthenshire County Council’s waste and recycling section and the Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd which is the UK’s leading textile and clothes recycling company. It has more than 5,000 textile recycling banks across the country including a number in Carmarthenshire. Carmarthenshire County Council’s waste minimisation/recycling officer Karen Fulham said: “By swapping your clothes instead of throwing them out you get a great new look for free and you can bask in the knowledge you have done your bit for the environment by diverting some great clothes from lying in a landfill site.” Any leftover clothes from the event w...
