Carmarthen pupils reach for the stars with art project

Carmarthen pupils have been reaching for the stars in their latest art project. Pupils from QE High School’s year seven were set the challenge of recreating Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’. They could choose any materials or way of producing the artwork for the project. The finished result has now been put together as a video compilation which can be viewed on YouTube. Headteacher Pete Spencer said: “This is a film not to be missed. It is an outstanding piece of work from our youngest pupils that will lift your spirits. “Congratulations to all of Year Seven. The efforts, dedication and commitment of the pupils are fantastic and the quality of the work is both exceptional and inspirational.” Carmarthenshire’s education executive board member Cllr Keith Davies said: “This is an inspiring piece of work, well done to all pupils and staff involved in this excellent project.” To view the video go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nPCCmuZieY

You Tube video helps Myrddin Special Unit classroom appeal in Carmarthen

Children at Myrddin Special Unit in Carmarthen are appealing in person for support to win an £80,000 classroom. The Unit has made a short web clip featured on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4M2akXzFGY asking for people to vote for them in a national competition. The Special Needs and Autism Unit was selected from almost 400 schools that entered the competition run by education magazine Times Educational Supplement (TES). It is now battling it out against five other shortlisted schools in a public vote to win the Clearspace Education classroom. The competition was open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK. The panel of five judges was impressed with Myrddin’s plan to create an Assistive Technology Centre which would provide life-changing technology for their students with severe learning difficulties. BBC News - Carmarthenshire leader Meryl Gravell wins no confidence vote A council leader has survived a no confidence vote which followed remarks she made about staff and some hospital protesters she referred to as "rabble". Meryl Gravell's comments were filmed by a member of public sector union Unison and posted on YouTube.
