Social entrepreneur and multi-millionaire Kevin Green has plenty of reason for celebrating this week. He’s spent his 51st birthday in Tobago and he also been able to celebrate a breakthrough moment as an in-demand international motivational and business speaker. “This summer and autumn has seen me break through onto the world circuit of speakers,” Green said before taking the stage at Wales’ biggest business exhibition in Cardiff. “I’ve done public speaking on an international level on plenty of occasions, but the last couple of weeks have seen the whole thing take off to a new level.” Green completed a whirlwind tour of Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia before taking a short holiday break in the West Indies and then returning to home territory for the Introbiz Business Exhibition at the Cardiff City House of Sport. “I’ve been clocking up the air miles,” Green laughed. “But it’s been a wonderful experience and the chance to talk to so many people on my tour of the Far E...

Prize-winning public speakers from St John Lloyd School in Llanelli addressed members of Llanelli Rotary Club at their weekly meeting at the Stradey Park Hotel. The teams from St John Lloyd carried off the senior and intermediate team prizes in the annual Llanelli Rotary Club Youth Speaks public speaking competition staged at Llanelli Town Hall. They went on to win the area finals staged at Gower and Llwchwr Rotary Club. They now go forward to the Rotary District 1150 competition (for all of South Wales) on March 7 at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. The next step then would be a regional final to be held in Gloucester and a national RIBI Rotary final to be held in May. Last year, one of the St John Lloyd teams made it all the way to the national final held in Hull. Millionaire social entrepreneur and wealth coach Kevin Green has gone back to his roots to help repay a personal debt of gratitude to the Nuffield Trust. Mr Green, 50, has been working with the latest group of Nuffield scholars at their UK conference at The Vale Resort near Cardiff. “There were many factors that put me on the road to being a millionaire,” said Mr Green. “But the Nuffield Trust played the key role in helping me work out what I wanted to do in life.” Mr Green won a Nuffield Scholarship in 1999. He used the bursary to travel and study the attitudes and personalities of high achievers. Along the way, he interviewed Bill Gates and Sir Richard Branson. During the Nuffield study, he learned the simple principles for success and determined the common elements that contributed towards that success. The guest speaker at the Spring Dinner meeting of the Five Roads Sporting Association will be former Welsh international football full-back Joey Jones. Joey started and ended his distinguished career at Wrexham and in between played for Liverpool, Chelsea and Huddersfield, gaining 72 caps along the way. Supporting Joey will be top Northern comedian Paul Boardman. Paul is a regular on the 'Jongleurs' comedy circuit and has made numerous television appearances. Paul is also a  former professional footballer, having once been signed by Peter Shilton for Plymouth Argyle. Costs for the dinner have been maintained again at members £20 and guests £30. These were among the topics debated in the annual Llanelli Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition held at Llanelli Town Hall. “The quality of the arguments presented was outstanding and the children taking part reflected great credit on their schools and families,” said the chairman of the judging panel Lt Colonel David Mathias. “All the competitors were a great credit to their families and their schools.” The competition saw the teams from St John Lloyd and Bryngwyn take the senior and intermediate prizes to progress to the next round of the Rotary competition – a zone area final. The Youth Speaks competition is organised on a national basis and it is possible for the teams to win through to a UK final. A total of eight teams have entered this year's Llanelli Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition. The popular public speaking competition is one of the highlights of the school calendar in Llanelli. Llanelli Rotary Club member and schools coordinator Mark Evans said: "Rotary encourages speaking and presentation skills in young people and we are pleased that schools seem to agree with our philosophy. "The Rotary Youth Speaks competition, as a result, continues to go from strength to strength each year, producing some superb quality speakers in our young people aged from 11 to 18. "The Llanelli event is a local heat and it is possible for the winners to go all the way to a national UK final." The Youth Speaks competition is being held at 5.45pm on Tuesday, January 29, in the prestigious surroundings of the council chamber at Llanelli Town Hall. Keen amateur golfer Garin Jenkins was the guest speaker at a Men's Dinner held at The Ashburnham Golf Club in Pembrey, near Burry Port. The TV and radio commentator and former rugby international entertained the guests with a speech full of humour and passion. With 58 caps, Garin Jenkins is Wales’s most capped hooker. A former captain of Swansea, he’s played in three World Cups, and won both league and cup honours with his club – not to mention scoring a try in Swansea’s famous 21-6 rout of Australia in 1992.
