Rugby hero Roy Bergiers honoured at West Wales Sports Aid lunch

Rugby hero Roy Bergiers was honoured at the West Wales Sports Aid lunch held at the Ivy Bush Hotel, Carmarthen. The former Llanelli Scarlets, Wales and British Lions rugby player was presented with a special award in memory of former West Wales Sports Aid committee chairman Nigel Harrison-Rees.  Mr Harrison-Rees died in office as chairman of the West Wales committee of Sports Aid Wales. Richard Gealy, secretary and vice-president of the West Wales committee of Sports Aid Wales, said: "Nigel worked tirelessly for Sports Aid for more than 25 years and was chairman for the last eight years of his life. "Nigel was a kind and generous gentleman, always concerned with the well-being of others. Sports Aid Wales would not be what it is today without his loyal commitment and enthusiasm." New sensory garden opened in Ammanford

Summer came just in time for children of an Ammanford children’s centre to enjoy their new sensory garden. The garden at Blaenau Children’s Centre was completed recently, and was opened by special guest – Llanelli, Wales and British Lions legend Roy Bergiers. The new garden includes a wheelchair accessible swing, a multi-access climbing frame with slide, trampoline, a sit on and ride donkey, ‘mushroom’ seats, willow arbour, musical chimes and tunnels. It also has an integrated road within the safety floor as well as four specially commissioned seasonal art panels. Centre manager Victoria Griffiths said: “This superb addition to the centre was achieved following a five year funding campaign which raised nearly £70,000 - mostly by the Friends of Blaenau parents group but we also secured around £18,000 through a Cwm Environmental project called Grantscape. “We would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the entire journey, especially the parents group, as well as s...
