Career 'taster day' at Kidwelly construction firm
School pupils from Caraway and Swiss Valley Primary Schools in Carmarthenshire got a taste for a career in construction at a Construction Awareness Day held by local company Dyfrig Dalziel in conjunction with ConstructionSkills. More than 30 pupils were involved in the day which, which was held at Dyfrig Dalziel’s site in Kidwelly and included visits from Keith Davies AM, Nia Griffith MP and Kidwelly Town Mayor Jeanette Gilasbey. Throughout the day pupils got to try their hand at a range of construction based activities from bricklaying, tiling and carpentry, through to recycling and building a miniature house. The event highlighted the different career paths available to young people in the industry and reinforced the message that construction is a viable career choice for women as well as men and that young girls should serious consider a future in the industry.
