Work starts on improving Llangadog bridge
Major strengthening works are being carried out to a Llangadog bridge. The works to the Carreg Sawdde Bridge started on Monday (July 1) and are being carried out by TRJ (Betws) Ltd on behalf of Carmarthenshire County Council. The C2146 road will be closed to traffic for the duration of the work; however pedestrian access will be maintained at the site with a temporary footbridge. The duration of the contract is 30 weeks, although there will be a two week shutdown at Christmas, taking the overall scheme to 32 weeks. The road is due to reopen to traffic on February 7, 2014. The project, which is costing more than half a million pounds, will see the replacement of the existing sub-standard bridge deck, which is currently subject to a 7.5 tonne weight limit. The existing abutments and piers will remain, although they will be modified to accommodate the new deck.
