Rotarians raise £750 for 'End Polio Now' campaign

Members of Llanelli Rotary Club were at the Tesco superstore in Parc Trostre, Llanelli, to rattle their collection buckets for the 'End Polio Now' campaign. The Rotarians raised more than £300 on the day. Pictured are Rotarians Alison Evans and Iori Thomas. The Llanelli Club also teamed up with their daughter club of Cefn Sidan Rotary for a curry night and quiz at the Masala restaurant in West End, Llanelli. The event raised a further £450 for the 'End Polio Now' campaign. Llanelli Rotary Club president Alan Owen said: "Rotary is about many things, including serving the community locally and internationally. 'Dwsin' ladies raise £500 for Llanelli homeless

The ladies from Dwsin (Dozen) Charity Group in Llanelli are pictured with Ahmed Ali of the Masala restaurant in West End, Llanelli, after their very successful charity curry night in aid of the Wallich Clifford charity which supports the homeless of Llanelli. The Dwsin Ladies, aided by Mr Ali and his staff, raised £500 for the cause. Last year, the Dwsin ladies raised more than £6,500 for the Air Ambulance by hosting an extremely well attended and successful black tie charity ball at the Stradey Park Hotel. The Dwsin group are especially grateful for the continuous and generous donations received from their loyal supporters.

Chairman's Curry Night now a sell-out

The hottest tickets in Llanelli have now sold out. There are no more places left at the Carmarthenshire County Council Chairman’s Curry Night. Cllr Ivor Jackson has organised the event at the Masala restaurant in Llanelli next Wednesday in aid of his chosen charities. He has raised almost £9,000 so far Macmillan Cancer Support, the Alzheimer’s Society and Plant Dewi, which works with children and their families in the Diocese of St David’s. To date the Chairman has raised £8,918 from a number of events including taking part in the Walrus Dip at Cefn Sidan on New Year’s Day which raised nearly £2,000 from sponsorship. On Saturday April 28 there will be a Charity Concert at Ysgol Pantycelyn in Llandovery featuring Llandovery Male Voice Choir with Gwawr Edwards and Aled Wynne Davies. The president for the evening will be Tom Lloyd OBE. The concert starts at 7pm and tickets are £10 or pay on the door. Anyone interested in going to the concert can contact Eira Evans on 01267 224060.
