Llanelli's busy BNI business network members will be hosting their first awards dinner on Friday. It is being held at 7.30pm on Friday, November 18, at The Diplomat Hotel, Llanelli. "It will be a great networking occasion, a fun and entertaining night and a great opportunity to recognise the achievements of our members," said Llanelli BNI Endeavour Chapter chairman Paul Williams. "Very importantly, it is an evening open to the whole of the business community in and around Llanelli, not just members of the BNI, Business Network International, team. "Our members play a key role in the community in the Llanelli area and we'd like to see as many businesses as possible represented at the dinner." Celebrated Welsh comedian Phil Evans is set to give the ‘inside track’ on what makes good comedy. The man who puts the ‘cwtsh’ into comedy is bravely putting himself on the analyst’s couch for a one-man show with a difference. The ‘difference’ is that it isn’t so much a one-man show as a two-man ‘fun fest’, with Phil being interrogated by fellow comedian Daniel Glyn. The ‘Phil Evans Exposed’ show is a one-night-only event at Llanelli’s Best Western Diplomat Hotel on Saturday, November 1. Phil explained: “This sort of question and answer interrogation is long overdue and something that I’ve has been putting off for quite a few years. “Everybody’s been asking me to do a Q & A show. Gaye was an inspirational American singer-songwriter and musician. He died in 1984. Gaye helped to shape the sound of Motown Records in the 1960s with a string of hits, including "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine". He earned the titles "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul". Gaye is remembered for his 1982 Grammy Award-winning hit "Sexual Healing" and the Midnight Love album. Did you hear the one about the two comedians who tried to tell jokes to the town’s deaf club? No? Well, you’re about to. In what is expected to be a ‘Welsh first’ comedians Phil Evans and Daniel Glyn are staging a show with live sign language for the deaf and hard of hearing. “It sounds impossible,” said Phil, who is famous for his promotion of the Welsh ‘cwtsh’ (hug). “But laughter is for everyone and we’ve always been determined to reach the parts other comedians fail to reach. “We believe we are the first comedians in Wales to try this idea – a live laugh-a-minute show with sign language, a treat which makes sure everyone gets the joke!” The Comedy and Cwtshes event takes place at The Diplomat Hotel, Llanelli, on Saturday, February 22. Three inspiring projects are in the running to scoop the Carmarthenshire Community Challenge Green Award 2013. Llys Caradog Children’s Centre, Banc Organics and Pontnewydd Living River Group are among those shortlisted for this year’s prestigious award. The award is part of the Llanelli Star Newspaper Community Awards and the winner will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Diplomat Hotel on Friday, September 6. Special jazz concert and cabaret evening planned in Llanelli to support charity Carmarthenshire Youth and Children's Association | This is South Wales A special jazz concert and cabaret evening will see bands from across Llanelli unite to raise funds for the Llanelli Star's charity of the year next week. Carmarthenshire Youth and Children's Association (CYCA) are to benefit from the Diplomat Hotel's annual Music and Jazz festival this year — an event which has been a hit since it was set up by saxophonist Alan Williams in 1977. The free concert, which takes place on August 25, will feature a variety of musical styles from acts including Memphis 7, Tommy Harries Quartet, Afternoon in Paris, Dawn Sandell and The Numbers Racket during the day, and a lounge appearance from regular Diplomat musicians Aled and Friends.
