Latest from the Carmarthen Mayor’s Charity Appeal Committee

At a well-attended meeting on April 8, the Mayor of Carmarthen Charity Appeal Committee discussed the forthcoming barbecue at the Mayor’s home to take place on the 11 May at 7pm. Also under discussion were arrangements for the Vintage Tea Party to be held at St Peter’s Civic Hall on June 8 at 3pm. Tickets for both events at £5 will be available from Committee members and from the Town Council at St Peter’s Civic Hall. The Treasurer asked Committee members to nominate local charities to receive donations from funds raised. A number of fundraising ideas were put forward and would be discussed at future meetings. The next meeting is to be held on May 7. All proceeds raised by the Appeal Committee are directed to local charities. Vintage tea party planned for Llangunnor

Residents of Yr Aelwyd Sheltered Housing Complex in Llangunnor will be sharing a vintage tea party with children from the local primary school and volunteers from the Retired and Senior Volunteers Programme (RSVP) on Thursday 4th October at 10am. The party guests will share stories about childhood and learn about one another’s favourite foods and games – as well as enjoying old fashioned cakes and getting involved in reminiscence and digital storytelling. The event has been organised to launch RSVP’s Welcome Friends Project. Welcome Friends will signpost older people to interests and activities in their area; in addition, where needed, volunteers will support isolated people to go out to their new activities, building confidence first through home visits (transport for short trips to activities may be possible).
