Vandals put lives at risk by damaging life lines and buoys

Vandals are putting people’s lives at risk by damaging life lines and buoys placed at ponds and waterways across the county. The council is continually having reports of lifesaving equipment being damaged or removed completely. The grounds maintenance team has had to replace a total of 155 lifelines and one lifebuoy housing to date this year and are now working with the police to target hotspot areas by increasing patrols. Lifesaving equipment along the county’s coastline is also checked weekly by the rangers, and although there have been no recent reports, they do suffer from vandalism, especially during the summer months. In total, the council has spent more than £10,000 on lifesaving equipment – and the majority of that is due to vandalism. Members of the public are now being asked to report any incidents of vandalism they witness so that the culprits can be caught. Boy racers leave trail of destruction at Pembrey Country Park

Security has been stepped up at Pembrey Country Park after boy racers left a trail of destruction behind them. Hundreds of pounds of damage has been caused from embedded tyres marks across landscaped areas including a barbecue and camping field, grassed lay-bys and a raised bank, known to locals as Monks Head, sometime last Friday evening. Footage from the twenty four-hour cameras at the barrier is being monitored and the police has increased its patrols. The carnage has not only left the park footing the bill, but they now have to re-landscape the areas affected. The council’s countryside and parks manager, Rory Dickinson said: “We have a beautiful park here on our doorstop and a lot of hard works goes into maintaining this wonderful area. The park is open to everyone for enjoyment and it’s such a shame that a minority of people show total disregard and cause damage in this way.
