Kind-hearted McDonald’s worker Kayleigh Phillips has turned comedy showcase promoter in her latest bid to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Kayleigh, shift manager at McDonald’s in Cross Hands, is helping stage the Phil Evans and Friends Stand-Up Comedy Showcase at Tumble Workingmen’s Club on Saturday, October 22. “So far this year we have raised £4000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities,” said Kayleigh. “And now we hope that people can have some fun helping to raise more money at our Phil Evans Comedy Showcase. “The aim of the fundraising is to complete the first ever Ronald McDonald House in Wales. “It will provide free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families who have children being treated at the Noah's Ark Children's Hospital and the neo-natal intensive care unit at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. “It’s a really deserving cause and we hope the people of Cross Hands, Tumble and all of West Wales get behind it.” Comedian Phil Evans – ...

A Llandybie man has been fined £220 for dumping a large builder’s bag of garden waste next to the recycling banks in Tumble Hall car park. David Mark Williams, aged 35, of Ammanford Road, was also ordered to pay £139 prosecution costs and a victim surcharge of £22. He failed to attend Carmarthen Magistrates Court and was convicted in absence of an offence contrary to Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. The court heard that on April 23 earlier this year the council’s environmental enforcement section received a report that a large builder’s bag of green waste had been dumped next to the recycling banks in Tumble Hall car park. CCTV footage revealed the vehicle involved and enquiries were made with the DVLA to find the registered keeper. The owner told officers one of his employees was the driver at the time of the incident. A Gwendraeth Valley man has been prosecuted for illegally carrying scrap metal. Jonathan Mark Wright, aged 33, of Clos Gwyn, Tumble, pleaded guilty by post to an offence contrary to the Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989. The prosecution was brought by Carmarthenshire County Council. Carmarthen Magistrates Court heard that Wright was stopped by police in Cross Hands. He was in a vehicle with scrap metal on it but did not have a waste carriers licence. The information was passed on to the council’s environmental enforcement officers who contacted Environment Agency Wales to check if Wright was a registered waste carrier. He did not hold the relevant licence and was prosecuted in court as a result. Wright was fined £75 by magistrates and ordered to pay full costs of £203.72. The council now hopes this case will act as a warning to others and help prevent the illegal transport of waste which often results in fly-tipping . Another person has been fined for failing to clean up after their dog at Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park near Tumble. The 53-year-old woman was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75 by the council’s environmental enforcement officers. She is the third person to be fined for dog fouling at the park in a matter of weeks. The officers were on patrol at the council-run attraction following complaints of owners not clearing up after their pets. Failure to pay the fixed penalty could result in prosecution in the magistrates court and a maximum fine of up to £1,000. Dog fouling is one of the main causes of complaint from residents to Carmarthenshire County Council. The council is working hard to tackle the problem of dog fouling and enforcement officers regularly carry out patrols across the county. It is hoped these fines will act as warning to others. A ‘waste amnesty’ is being held in Llansawel and Tumble village car parks between 08:00 – 10:30 on Saturday 28th January. It’s a great opportunity to take along bulky waste items such as furniture and electrical goods. However, asbestos, tyres, paint, garden chemicals, batteries, gas bottles, construction waste and trade waste will not be accepted. The aim is to encourage residents to dispose of waste that may otherwise be fly-tipped as well as encourage you to recycle and/or reuse as much of their rubbish as possible. The event has been organised by Carmarthenshire County Council and is being supported and funded by Tidy Towns. An accident a year for the last five years was good enough reason to introduce a 20mph speed limit outside a school at Heol y Neuadd, Tumble. Cllr Philip Hughes, making an executive board member decision on speed reduction for Carmarthenshire Council, said: “Five personal injuries in five years on this stretch of road demands a traffic calming measure of this nature.” The speed reduction will be on the A4310 outside Tumble Primary School. Police, local members emergency services and motoring organisations were all contacted and do not object to the proposals. Following a published notice on the changes one objection was received from a local resident who suggested 20mph speed limits should not be introduced on a main traffic route. A new volunteer-led luncheon club in Tumble is acting as a catalyst for the regeneration of the village. Cinio a Chlonc (Meal and a Chat) is the first initiative to get underway in the area, providing a twice-weekly service for people aged 60+ to eat and socialise together. Supported by Llannon Community Council, the club was one of the first to be established after Carmarthenshire County Council offered independent providers the chance to operate their own lunch clubs. Membership is no longer restricted by eligibility criteria, and members are able to spend longer socialising than they were before. Reduced-cost meals, with food sourced locally and cooked on the premises, are served every Tuesday and Thursday at Tumble Hall.
