There are plenty of reasons to bring your family to Llanelli this summer. Carmarthenshire’s Communities First team have got loads of free family activities designed to inspire imaginations and help you discover your inner child and learn a new skills. On Thursday, August 28, Trimsaran Leisure Centre plays host to a community day between 10.30am and 4.30pm. Activities will include arts and crafts, knitting and crocheting workshop, as well as DJ and graffiti workshop and sports taster sessions including rugby, kick boxing and self defence. There will also be a visit at noon from the fire service. Communities First Volunteer Support Worker, Amber Williams, said: “There’ll be lots of activities for children of all ages. Youngsters have been enjoying the start of their summer holidays by keeping active. Actif leisure centres are playing host to the ever popular playschemes across the county throughout the holiday break. Come rain or shine children are taking part in a range of exciting sporting activities including table tennis, archery, trampolining, football, squash and karate. The fun all day schemes at Carmarthen, Llanelli, Ammanford and St Clears provide eight to 12-year-olds the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities such as multi skills, circuit sessions, swimming, snorkelling, netball, canoeing and hockey. The active camps run mid week until August 29 (except Bank Holiday) and are delivered by Carmarthenshire County Council’s sports and leisure team. Youngsters in Carmarthenshire do not need to be bored over the summer holidays. Llanelli Library is hosting a variety of free family activities along with the summer reading challenge. They include: Dewi the Dragon on a walkabout in the St Elli Centre, followed by stories and ‘Dragonology’ from 11am till 12.45pm on Monday, August 4 at the library. Buenos días! A Spanish language taster session from 10 until 11am on Thursday, August 7. Become a library detective for the day and find the hidden characters in the Mythical Maze treasure hunt on Thursday, August 14. Go barking mad and join in Kipper’s 25th birthday celebrations from 11am till noon, on Thursday, August 21. Tickets should be booked in advance. A range of free activities area available to young people in the Llanelli area during the summer holidays. The Llanelli Youth Team, based at Bwlch Rangers, has put on a programme of activities for young people to get involved in from July 22 – August 24. Activities will include motorbiking, coasteering, mountain biking, kayaking and various sports activities.
