With air raid sirens wailing, mixed up with sound effects of bombs dropping, wartime London was brought to Llanelli's Antioch Centre courtesy of Ty Golau. The realism was brought into sharp focus with a fabulous effort by more than 60 schoolchildren from Penygaer CP School who dressed as evacuees, complete with their suitcases and luggage label name tags. They mingled at the war year’s re-enactment of the really professional Ty Golau team dressed as munition workers and Land Girls with even Winston Churchill putting in an appearance. The voluntary group of Janet Lewis and her friends organise different themes for the weekly Ty Golau health and wellbeing sessions for people aged 50+ in homes all over Llanelli, Pembrey, Burry Port and Kidwelly. Communities First has held a healthy cooking course in Llanelli at the request of clients. People taking part in a Mental Wellbeing programme at the Antioch Centre in Llanelli, funded by Communities First, asked if they could have a healthy cooking programme that would support their improvements to a healthier lifestyle. Communities First then provided four sessions of healthy cooking, where the individuals were able to prepare and cook the food in the Antioch Centre. The sessions were very well received and those taking part felt they had learned a lot and would now be able to add healthier options to their diet and improve their lifestyle and health. One course member said: “I have really enjoyed these cooking sessions as it has shown me that even with my disability I can still make nice recipes that are healthy. A Communities First team has held two events to promote health and wellbeing and careers. Felinfoel Communities First along with all the other Communities First areas in Carmarthenshire (Glanymor and Tyisha, Pantyffynnon, Bigyn 4 and Llwynhendy) organised the events on two consecutive days at the Antioch Event Centre, in Copperworks Road, Llanelli. The first was a Health Event involving service providers promoting their services as well as workshops for the community to help to improve people’s overall health and wellbeing. The second event was a Careers Event involving service providers promoting their services and workshops for the community to enable or help them to return to work.

Glanymor and Tyisha Communities First  in Llanelli has organised an Ethnic Cooking Competition for healthy eating between chefs today, Monday (Feb 20). The free event, funded by the Community Cohesion Fund, will be held at the Antioch Centre in Copperworks Road, Llanelli, from 6pm to 10pm. Members of the public are invited to come to vote and taste different foods. There will be entertainment of Korean and Indian belly dancing. Families are welcome. Glanymor and Tyisha Communities First has held its first ever Eid Festival in Llanelli. The Festival was held at the Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road, Llanelli. The event was in collaboration with two of its multi ethnic groups, the Ethnic Minority Help Association (EMHA) and the Women’s Only Group and was funded by the Community Cohesion Fund. The Festival was free and open to all. Eid is an Arabic word meaning ‘Solemn Festival’. This Eid is second of two Eid festivals observed by Muslims annually and is known as Eid al-Adha .It is also commonly called "Greater Eid and the festival of Sacrifice" because it coincides with the 10th Day of the pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The aim of celebrating this event in Llanelli was to show solidarity with the local Muslim community. Various international wedding traditions were showcased at a Llanelli event, designed to promote awareness of different cultures. Organised by Glanymor and Tyisha Communities First, the event – at the Antioch Centre, Copperworks Road - gave over 200 visitors an insight in to many cultural marriage traditions including Welsh, Polish, Indian, Jewish, Korean, Muslim, African and Egyptian. There was also a traditional belly dance – which is performed within certain cultures as a way of encouraging fertility between newly married couples. It was topped off with a programme of workshops and a lunch of international flavour, with samples from several countries. The event was funded through the Community Cohesion Fund, in partnership with Communities First – a Welsh Assembly initiative run locally by Carmarthenshire County Council.
