Gym fixes it for Llandeilo play area

An old paddling pool that had been out of action for many years has been replaced with an outdoor gym that can be used by the whole community of Llandeilo.
And the nature of the rules of the enabling grant funding means the playing area at Parc Le Conquet supplied with the fitness equipment is protected for future generations under a royal jubilee deed of dedication.
Carmarthenshire Council’s Street scene has been working with FIT (Field’s in Trust) and WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental) to access grant funding to provide the outdoor fitness equipment.
The park has been established as a Queen Elizabeth 11 Field and is protected through Fields in Trust Deed of Dedication which effectively means that the park will be held in trust as a public open space.
Funding of £27,000 has been obtained through WREN which has been working closely with FIT on the Queen Elizabeth II scheme aiming to get 2012 public parks throughout Britain protected by Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
County executive board member for leisure services Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “This is a tremendous example of how the council working with other agencies can save valuable parkland and bring it back into use for whole communities.
“Paddling pools have proved high maintenance for those managing them and in this age of health and safety almost impossible to sustain.
"With leisure centres about the county providing safe swim opportunities the conversion at Parc le Conquest is an ideal solution for a better and more community wide alternative use for this section of park.
“It also has the benefit of preserving the future of the park under the protected fields trust deed which has enabled the funding making the development possible.”
