Consultation event for dementia carers

Carers in Carmarthenshire who look after people with dementia are being asked to share their experiences in order to shape the future development of services.
Carmarthenshire County Council is holding a dementia carers consultation event, and want to speak to people who care for relatives that suffer with dementia.
The event is part of an on-going dementia project being undertaken by the Carmarthenshire Joint Scrutiny Forum.
The Forum is made up of members of the county council’s Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee and the Carmarthenshire branch of the Hywel Dda Community Health Council.
Members of the forum are encouraging carers to tell the council what they really need in terms of support for themselves, and the people they care for.
The event is taking place at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales on Monday, January 30.
Event organisers are keen to hear from anyone who may be interested in attending so that support can be offered, where necessary, to allow them to attend.
Cllr. Jane Tremlett, Chair of the Joint Scrutiny Forum, said: “This event will give family carers the opportunity of telling the professionals about the kind of support that would make all the difference to their lives.
“Caring for someone with dementia is physically and mentally demanding, and we must do all we can to support people who are prepared to care for their loved ones – after all, without their loving care, there would be an extra burden on health and social care services.”
For further information, or to register an interest in attending, please call the council’s Scrutiny and Consultancy Team on 01267 246121 or email scrutiny@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
