Giant 'caterpillar' wiggles by Sandy Water Park in Llanelli

Even Sandy Water Park’s swans turned their heads when the giant caterpillar wiggled by.
But there was no need to call out pest control teams. It was Llwynhendy Integrated Children’s Centre teaming up with leading charity Action for Children and The World of Eric Carle for a Giant Wiggle fundraiser to celebrate the UK’s most read children’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The sponsored event gathered together more than 30 under fives from Llwynhendy to wiggle along in giant caterpillar conga lines, encouraging them to help others and opening up their imaginations through storytelling and creative activities.
Play Leader at Llwynhendy ICC, Ashley Lewis, said: “It was a lovely chance for the language and play parents and children to join the Flying Start Nursery in a sponsored walk in the community."
Childcare Leader at Ser Ni Flying Start Nursery, Rhian, added: “We were absolutely delighted to be hosting a Giant Wiggle in support of Action for Children. Everyone had so much fun.”
Ruth Sorby, partnership fundraising manager at Action for Children, said: “What better way to celebrate the anniversary of Eric Carle’s beloved book than by getting kids active and having fun.
“The money raised by The Giant Wiggle at Llwynhendy ICC will help to support vulnerable children, young people and families in the heart of communities in Carmarthenshire and across the UK.”
Action for Children provides early years child development, learning and childcare services to thousands of tots throughout the UK, through its children and family centres.
In March 2014, more than 32,000 children from nearly 800 schools and nurseries took part in The Giant Wiggle, raising £80,000 for Action for Children.
