'Queen Victoria' to open art event at The Senedd

'Queen Victoria' is to open a special art event at The Senedd in Cardiff Bay on Tuesday.
The event is part of the 'Art in the Park' event staged at the popular Victorian Festival in Llandrindod Wells.
The opening of the art show is being hosted by Kirsty Williams AM in the Oriel Gallery of The Senedd, at 12.15 on November 6.
The Lib-Dems Assembly member will be welcoming a very special 'Queen Victoria' from Llandrindod Wells at the start of the exhibition.
This year’s Victorian Festival in Llandrindod Wells saw a number of new activities, including the 'Art in the Park' event sponsored by Glasu and Powys County Council.
In the best Victorian traditions, artists of all ages and abilities, were invited to work alongside professional artists, in the beautiful Grade II listed Rock Park during Victorian week.
Some 96 art works created were displayed in the Rock Park Heritage Centre on August 25.
Members of the public had the final vote on which works should be exhibited at The Senedd's Oriel Gallery from now until November 16.
The Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival is in its 31st year.
Llandrindod Wells is a Victorian Spa Town and in the Victorian era was a thriving “holiday resort”. The architecture and hotels survive, as do many of the original Victorian facilities: Albert Hall Theatre, Grand Pavilion, Lake, Bandstand, and Rock Park.
The Victorian Festival builds on the existing resources and history of the town, with the desire to raise the profile, help in its regeneration, and to grow the tourist trade for the benefit of local businesses and the community.
Over the last 30 years the Festival has brought thousands of visitors into the town and has a loyal following of “Friends.”
The Victorian Festival is a Family Fun Festival, run by a constituted Voluntary Committee on a not-for-profit basis.
The Programme for 2012 provided entertainment and opportunities to perform for locals.
Activities included:
Free daytime entertainment: Street Theatre, Bandstand Concerts, Costume Parades, Children’s Entertainment, Competitions, Craft Marquee, Street Organs, Church “Dickens” and Art Club Exhibitions, National Cycle Collection, Radnorshire Museum, Radnor WI Art and Craft exhibitions.
Events include: Various Talks, Lectures, Workshops and Demonstrations, Panic Circus, Children’s Activities, Costumed Victorian Tea Dances, Historic Vehicle Display, Soirées.
Evening Events: Male Voice Choir, Music Hall, Empire and Grand Costumed Balls, Musical Interludes, Cockney Ding Dong, Below the Stairs Jubilee Party, Ghost Walk, Charity Fashion Show, Fun Casino, Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Display
Theatre & Musical Productions Nightly, Charlie’s Aunt (local youth) The Quaker Girl (Liverpool Theatre Company) Knighton, Teme Spirit, Stage Spirit (local dance group)
Rock Park Venue
The Rock Park is a historic Grade II listed Victorian Park, located within the town boundaries being only a short walk from the town centre. Visitors in the past were encouraged to walk to the Park to take the “waters” but there has been no focus on staging events or highlighting this beautiful 14 acre park with its formal and wilder areas stretching out to Lovers Leap, arboretum, stream and waterfall and meandering paths. The Rock Park provides a unique and beautiful setting with a wide variety of subject matter
The original Pump Room Building where the Victorians took the waters remains, although externally the open covered area is in a somewhat dilapidated state. The Rock Park Building was utilised during this event and helped to highlight the need for investment in this unique building.
