Warning on rubbish collections

Rubbish collections across Carmarthenshire are likely to be disrupted next week as many council staff take part in a one-day strike.
More than two million public sector workers are expected to strike on Wednesday, November 30 in protest against proposed changes to their pensions.
Residents who usually have their rubbish collected on Wednesdays are being advised not to put them out on that date. Householders are being advised to keep their blue/black bags until their next blue/black bag collection week.
The four black bag limit will be temporarily suspended for those residents affected on Wednesday, November 30 and they will be able to put out a maximum of eight black bags on Wednesday, December 14. Green food bins can be put the following week as normal.
Residents can dispose of/recycle their waste at one of the county’s five household waste recycling centres at Trostre ( Llanelli); Wernddu, (Ammanford); Nantycaws, (Carmarthen); Whitland and Llangadog, which will remain open. There are also more than 150 recycling banks sites throughout the county. To find your nearest or for further information visit www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call Carmarthenshire Direct on 01267 234567.
Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Philip Hughes said: “We would like to apologise to residents for any disruption caused but unfortunately this is outside of our control.
“We are advising people not to put their rubbish out on Wednesday as it will not be collected and we do not want to see bags being ripped apart and refuse spilling onto the streets. Residents can use one of the Household Waste Recycling Centres if they so wish.”
Other services such as schools are likely to be affected by the strike. For further information on the services affected by the industrial action visit the council website at www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk
