The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star -
Llanelli concert promoter Cerith Owens has been extending his reach into Ammanford with a Charity Gala Concert in aid of BLAS Ammanford Stoke Group.
The concert was held at the Miners’ Theatre Ammanford under the banner of Cerith’s Loud Applause Productions.
It featured the renowned Welsh tenor soloist Trebor Edwards and Samuel Morris, a young musical theatre star from Llanelli.
“We’ve staged events in Llanelli, Swansea and Carmarthen, but this was the inaugural musical event staged by Loud Applause Productions at the Miners’ Theatre in Ammanford,” said Cerith.
“It was a truly memorable evening. Burry Port Male choir, under the baton of Ryan Lee, with accompanist John Evans, were at their best and performed a very varied programme.
“Samuel Morris from Ysgol y Strade, Llanelli, made his mark with renditions of Tell My Father and Empty Chairs and Empty Tables. But the star of the night was the popular lyrical tenor Trebor Edwards.
“With his warm character shining through, it is little wonder that that Trebor has continued to remain so popular over the years. The compere was retired headteacher Ruth Bevan.”
This weekend, there’s something of a clash with two big concerts in the Llanelli area.
Tickets for the Last Night of the Proms at Y Ffwrnes theatre in Llanelli on Saturday night are sold out, with a waiting list in operation.
But there’s a very worthy rival attraction in Côr Meibion Dyffryn Tywi's annual concert in the Princess Gwenllian Centre Kidwelly.
Guest artists are Hogia'r Wyddfa, who this year are celebrating 50 years of singing together, Eirlys Myfanwy Davies ( mezzo soprano ), Ifan and Tomos Gwynedd (clarinet).
Tickets for the concert are £7.50, available from Tal Davies 01554890956, Derrick Rowlands 01269860996 or any choir member. Website - http://www.cormeibiondyffryntywi.co.uk/
