Hywel Dda Health Board’s consultation given best practice hallmark
Hywel Dda Health Board’s consultation – Your Health Your Future – has been given a hallmark of best practice.
The Consultation Institute has confirmed the consultation was compliant with Best Practice Standards as per the Consultation Charter, providing quality assurance for the exercise.
To achieve the Compliance Assessment Scheme to best practice standards, the Health Board had to demonstrate it delivered on seven best practice principles including the integrity, visibility, accessibility, transparency, disclosure obligations, fair interpretation and publication.
Chairman Chris Martin said: “We are very proud to have received this quality mark that confirms the credibility of the consultation process. Hywel Dda Health Board endeavours to promote and uphold the highest standards of engagement with staff, patients, stakeholders and the public and we are pleased this demonstrates our commitment to best practice.”
Chief Executive Trevor Purt added: “The compliance assessment confirms the consultation exercise has been carried out professionally and we hope it reassures our staff, patients, stakeholders and members of the public who took time to get involved.”
Your Health Your Future saw an unprecedented amount of engagement and consultation for the NHS in Wales. The consultation exercise included distribution of more than 16,500 consultation documents, almost 10,000 hits to the website, staff and public focus groups, attendance of almost 1,000 people at 10 public events and more than 5,000 direct formal responses, amongst others.
The Consultation Institute’s aim is to seek to promote the highest standards of public, stakeholder and employee consultation by initiating research, publications and specialist events in order to disseminate best practice and improve subsequent decision-making.
Rhion Jones, Programme Director of the Consultation Institute commented:-
“Consultations on changes to the NHS are often controversial and we recognise that some proposals are deeply unpopular. However our role is to ensure that when difficult decisions have to be taken, all relevant views have been fairly gathered and properly considered. It is not always an easy or straightforward task, but on this occasion we are satisfied that the Hywel Dda Health Board met our requirements.”
