Cardigan Health Project takes another step forward

Cardigan Stakeholder Board have welcomed the land being secured and selection of design team and external support consultants as a major step forward for delivery of an integrated health and social care facility.
The Stakeholder Board met recently to discuss progress and the meeting was well-attended by representatives of a wide range of organisations and groups with an interest in the project.
The Project Board has interviewed and notified the successful support consultants (via the ‘Designed for Life 3’ Building for Wales Framework).
They are; a project manager and cost advisor, from Gardiner and Theobald; Supply Chain Partner, Balfour Beattie; and ‘Fusion’ Healthcare Planners whose role will be to collate all information for the Outline Business Case for submission to the Welsh Government later this year.
The Stakeholder Board has supported the project being re-named as ‘Cardigan Integrated Care Project’ to reflect the project’s focus on integration across health, social care and the third sector and in support of the delivery of care closer to, or in, patient’s own homes, which will provide a new model of care, benefitting local patients.
Ceredigion County Director Jeremy Brown explained: “Cardigan Community Resource Centre will be at the heart of the development, supporting delivery of the Health Board’s vision for more integrated working between primary, community and social care services. It will be a resource and communications hub at the centre of the community and will support reduction in unnecessary demand on hospital services and provide a better balance of services more locally, improving access and equity.”
The final stage of the business case process is the completion of the Full Business Case, which the Health Board hopes to finalise by the end of 2013, with the aim of construction starting early in 2014.
Hywel Dda Health Board’s consultation document ‘Your Health Your Future – Consulting our Communities’ features the development of a new Community Resource Centre in Cardigan and also includes proposals to progress the Cylch Caron project in Tregaron and build a new Community Resource Centre in Aberaeron, which are all positive developments for Ceredigion.
