Spotlight falls on family services in Carmarthenshire
People with an interest in family services have gathered to share the findings of an evaluation of Plant Dewi Families Together groups and Carmarthenshire Family Centres.
The event at Parc Y Scarlets, was attended by partners from health, education and statutory services as well as staff from Plant Dewi and local family centres, all of whom work with Carmarthenshire County Council to operate safe, supportive and positive family centre and group services.
The independent evaluation was carried out by Anne Crowley of Red Kite Research and Consultancy, who was selected as a previous member of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Child Poverty Expert Group.
Ms Crowley also sits on the Welsh Government’s National Independent Advocacy Board and on the Wales Committee of Equality and Human Rights Commission.
She said: “The independent evaluation of Plant Dewi’s Families Together Groups and the Network of Family Centres illustrates how the services support families with young children in their local communities.
“The services have achieved success in engaging isolated and vulnerable families across Carmarthenshire and in developing the strengths and emotional well-being of parents to increase confidence, self-esteem and motivation and thereby enhance their children’s development.”
Currently, there is a network of 12 family centres across the county and seven Families Together groups, which are managed by Plant Dewi.
There are centres in Betws, Garnant, Tumble, Trimsaran, Pencader, Llanybydder, South Cefn Caeau, Felinfoel, Morfa, Carmarthen and St Paul’s in Llanelli, supported by Plant Dewi Project Workers.
Plant Dewi Families Together Groups meet weekly in Upper Brynamman, Llandybie, Kidwelly, Llandeilo, Saron, Laugharne and Newcastle Emlyn.
