Latest news from the team at Brecon Jazz Club -

Jazz FEB - Juan Galiardo Trio: Tues 23 Feb / T and T and Wellington.
Well, you turned out in spectacular fashion to support our new year / January club event - thank you. There is a great feature on this fyi, see link at end.
Now we must look to 23rd February, and our visiting Spanish jazz pianist, Juan Galiardo.
Let us give him a warm welcome, because the weather may not be, and he's leaving a sunny homeland for his February visit to Wales!
Juan sends greetings and he is very much looking forward to playing at the Club - more details below.
Supper will be at the T and T from 6.30.

We've also got some new initiatives to announce - info about the Jazz Club in the Brecon and Radnor newspaper, on the theme of 'jazz all year round' and keeping interest alive in jazz in Brecon throughout the year - thanks to the new Brecon and Radnor Express editor.
Related to this, the Wellington Hotel has also approached us about raising the profile and interest of jazz in town, and what they can do to help, given that discussions about holding a festival this year are positive and continuing....isn't that great?
So...We are holding a first JAZZ @ THE WELLINGTON HOTEL on Saturday, 6 February, from 8pm with the Mike Chappell Trio - Mike on piano/keyboard, Erika Lyons on double bass and John Gibbon on drums.
These are all great jazz musicians who we are fortunate that live locally and this launch event will showcase their talents.
So, go along and have a coffee, drink or a meal, meet up with friends and family on 6 Feb to show support (no admission fee, the event is hosted by the Hotel and arranged by the jazz Club) - and give yourself a jazz fix till 23 Feb and next jazz club!

Juan Galiardo (piano)
Born in Seville, Juan Galiardo graduated from Cadiz University and then the Berklee College of Music in Boston (2004). Today, he is a member of an acclaimed jazz ensemble on the Spanish scene, the Arturo Serra Quartet, a musical partnership playing throughout Europe, and who toured Wales in 2013 (as part of an ACW project ‘España Cymru’, organised by Brecon Jazz Club & Jazz Live Cymru). Galiardo has performed with international US artists including saxophonists Donny McCaslin and Jerry Bergonzi (with whom he has toured and recorded) and has performed in the USA, Phillippines, Japan as well as UK. At home in Andalucia, Juan teaches jazz piano, plays regular concerts, festivals and clubs, with regular appearances at Gibraltar jazz club, and organises the annual 'International Jazz Workshop' at Cadiz University.
The musicians accompanying Juan Galiardo are leading graduates of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama specialist Jazz Performance degree programme who are now rising talents on the UK and Wales jazz scene.
Pete Komor (double bass) is based in South Wales and leads his own Septet, also playing regularly with the Teddy Smith Big Band and the Tripp Ensemble. Recently, he toured with the Mañana Collective featuring visiting Cuban flautist Javier Zalba (Buena Vista Social Club, Irakere) and his son Jose Zalba Smith. Pete played a series of jazz gigs in Switzerland last year and is also part of the latest recording by trumpeter Tom Syson.
Rod Oughton (drums) has performed alongside many jazz greats including Norma Winstone, Soweto Kinch, Kenny Wheeler, Iain Bellamy, Huw Warren and others, and has also appeared at leading UK venues such as Ronnie Scott's and Vortex. He has studied with James Maddren (Kit Downs Trio) and, as a member of the National Youth Jazz Collective, worked with Issie Barratt and Steve Waterman amongst others.
