Schools join forces with Carmarthen hockey club

The council’s sport and leisure officers have teamed up with Carmarthen Athletic Hockey Club and three schools to offer an Actif Hockey Centre.
Schools will transfer its hockey practice to the active young people participate officers for the autumn term.
The aim is to provide strong links with schools and local clubs. It will also give boys and girls, aged 9 to 14, an opportunity to train with experienced players in a club setting.
School children will receive high quality coaching on a floodlit Astroturf pitch at Carmarthen Leisure Centre. Training will take place every Tuesday until December. Sessions are due to start on September 16 from 4 – 5.30pm and costs £1 a week, along with an initial £5 affiliation fee to Hockey Wales.
Active young people participate officer, Kate Williams said: “The aim of these sessions is to increase the profile of hockey in the local area, to increase the playing standard and to provide strong links between the schools and the local club.”
