Hywel Dda Health Board increases its score in Stonewall index

Hywel Dda University Health Board has again increased its score in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, the nationally recognised survey that measures employers’ efforts to tackle discrimination and create inclusive workplaces for lesbian, gay and bisexual employees.
Kate Chaterjee-Williams from Stonewall Cymru recently met with Andy King and Anne Eynon, (Co-Chairs of ‘Enfys’ the University Health Board’s branch of the All Wales Public Sector LGBT Staff Network) and representatives from the university health board to deliver the results and give feedback on the 2014 submission.
The university health board received positive feedback on implementing a number of initiatives to help staff feel able to be themselves in the workplace, which in turn helps to improve the quality of service delivery.
‘Enfys’ advises on policy and practice, helps raise awareness of LGBT issues in the workplace, provides confidential reporting and peer support for all staff and aims to support LGBT Staff keen to develop their skills and careers. As Co-chair, Anne was pleased to hear that the organisation has improved on last year. “We’ve made so much progress with establishing the Network and we’ll continue to seek more ways to improve in years to come."
Janet Wilkinson, Director of Workforce and Organisation Development, said: "Over the last 3 years we have made significant progress with our placement in the Index, it is important that we continue to support our staff and embed equality and diversity. I am happy that our commitment to supporting LGB staff has been recognised by Stonewall."
Angie Oliver, Assistant Director Workforce and Organisational Development said: "I am delighted that we continue to make progress in our efforts to become a leading organisation for equality and diversity."
February marks LGBT History month, an annual event celebrating the lives and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people within our communities and across the country. As part of Hywel Dda University Health Board’s wider commitment to equality and diversity, we will be proudly supporting the event throughout February.
