Hywel Dda Health Board staff nominated for making a difference

Press release from the Hywel Dda Health Board -
Hywel Dda recognises those who have made a difference though a better use of resources in the Best of Health Staff Awards this year.
Staff and departments who have implemented ther ideas to improve quality, effiency and value for money, which makes a difference to patients, staff or a place of work are acknowledged at a health board ceremony this year.
The three shortlisted entries are:
Primary Care General Medical Services (GMS) Team The Primary Care General Medical Services (GMS) Team has successfully introduced a primary care section on the Intranet and a monthly online GMS newsletter as a means of communicating up to date information to GP practices.
Both the monthly GMS letter and the Intranet, which contain topical information for GPs, guidelines, training days and the latest health board news, have made a significant difference to users particularly in terms of improving efficiency. Positive feedback has been received since setting these up in 2012 from GP practices and health board staff.
Development of Advanced Nurse Practitioner 'Pathfinding' Post in Mental Health Services, Carmarthenshire Carmarthenshire mental health services undertook a twelve month ‘pathfinding’ project in order to pilot the role of an advanced nurse practitioner within acute mental health care.
The aim was to provide increased access to a senior clinician who would support an inpatient mental health unit and two crisis resolution home treatment teams independently. Results from the project suggest improvement where fewer people needed to stay as an inpatient when compared to the previous year, leaving more beds available for urgent admissions.
Children’s Audiology Service The Children’s Audiology Service has demonstrated a sustained, cooperative and focused approach to service improvement for patients whilst being mindful of the need to conserve resources. Following redesign, the service now works collaboratively across the Health Board and has embraced new ways of working to achieve quality, equality and efficiency.
Winners will be announced in January 2014, when the Chief Executive will also announce his winner for overall best entry.
Director of Workforce & Organisational Development Janet Wilkinson said: "These awards give an opportunity to recognise and praise just a few of the many staff and volunteers who contribute greatly to delivering better healthcare services for our patients. We had a record number of entries this year and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit a nomination. Good luck to all our finalists".
Health Shield, a UK leading provider of health cash plans and a nonprofit making friendly society, are the major sponsor for our Best of Health Staff Awards; thanks to them we will be able to host an awards ceremony in January to celebrate our stars of local health.
