The latest 'On Song' column from the Llanelli Star
The latest 'On Song' column about the choral scene in and around Llanelli from the Llanelli Star -
After the success of his ‘Night With The Stars’ concert at Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli-based concert promoter Cerith Owens is busy planning his 2014 events.
Mr Owens, who runs Loud Applause Productions, is keen to work closely with Theatrau Sir Gar on bringing popular musical and choral entertainment to the three Carmarthenshire theatres in Ammanford, Carmarthen and Llanelli.
For Llanelli, he has two big events already planned for next year.
The singing trio Blake will be at Ffwrnes on Saturday, February 1.
Combining the vocal grandeur of The Three Tenors with the infectious harmonies of The Bee Gees and the comedy of the Rat Pack, Blake will be appearing after major tours in Asia, America and Europe.
They will be performing numbers from their new album ‘Start Over’.
Joining Blake will be classical soprano Natalie Coyle and the Llanelli-based Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers under the baton of musical director John Hywel Williams MBE.
Mr Owens will also be masterminding a special St David’s Day Gala Concert at Ffwrnes on Saturday, March 1.
The concert will feature The Three Welsh Tenors, the combined Llanelli and Bridgend Male Choirs, Parti Llwchwr Ladies Choir and the BBC’s Garry Owen as compere.
The Three Welsh Tenors are Aled Hall, Alun Rhys-Jenkins and Rhys Meirion.
Mr Owens said: “We will have a wealth of Welsh talent on stage. What better way to celebrate and share our Welshness! This will be a bilingual evening and one definitely not to be missed for those who enjoy the very best of Welsh choral tradition.”
Other events –
Cor Meibion Llanelli’s remaining events for 2013: December 14, Christmas Concert, Tabernacle Chapel, Llanelli. December 18, concert at Thomas Arms. December 16, Radio service for Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
On Monday (Nov 25), Lleisiau Hardd and Lleisiau Hardd Bach performed their ‘Winter Warmer Concert’ at the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli.
