Clay Shaw Butler's Amanda Russell lined-up to speak at business event




The next meeting of the Rugby Business Network in Llanelli will be held on Tuesday 9th July 2013
The July meeting of Llanelli Rugby Business Network marks the second anniversary of this popular event and will again be held at the Scarlets Heart and Soul Café, Parc y Scarlets.
The purpose of these meetings is to promote and enhance business in South West Wales and in particular the local area.
The event is friendly and mainly informal and all attendees will be provided with the opportunity of introducing their business, the services they offer and the type of leads and introductions they are seeking, plus there will be ample opportunity for informal networking.
The first speaker will be Amanda Russell (a regular attendee of RBN), who is employed as an accountant, at Clay Shaw Butler, Carmarthen.
Amanda’s talk is on the theme of “Getting the Basics Right”.
Her talk will include a summary of basic book keeping, how to interpret figures, vat registration and how to keep accountancy fees to a minimum whilst ensuring that tax and/or penalties aren’t paid unnecessarily.
The Rugby Business Network team are also currently in discussions regarding inviting a special guest speaker along to mark this landmark occasion.
To celebrate the second anniversary, there will be a couple of additional activities for participants to enjoy, including a free prize draw plus a Summer Secret Santa activity.
There will be a small charge of £10 for attending (which will include the cost of light refreshments) and is payable on the night.
It is important that you register your interest prior to the event so that adequate refreshments can be provided.
Members of other networking groups are welcome to join us at our events for which there are no annual membership fees involved.
The evening starts from 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

Former Gower MP Gareth Wardell was the guest speaker at the weekly meeting of Llanelli Rotary Club held at the Stradey Park Hotel. 'Class of 1980' from Burry Port enjoy reunion

There was a big class reunion held in Burry Port at the weekend. Members of the Class of 1980 from Porth Tywyn (Burry Port junior) School got together at The Coasting Pilot pub. The reunion was organised by Christine Rees and same 22 members of the original class of 28 turn up to discuss their old schooldays. One ‘Class of 1980’ member was Burry Port businessman Owain Davies. He said: “We all have very happy memories of our time in school. We had a fantastic teacher in Mr Heddwyn Jones, who now lives in Four Roads. “We were very fortunate to have the same teacher for three years and we were a very happy class. Mr Jones was an inspiring teacher and we all got on every well and we are all still good friends. “Heather Thomas (now Heather Osmond) made it from Surrey, but she was trumped by Gail Morris, who flew in from Ohio in the United States for the reunion. “It was a fantastic evening at the Coasting Pilot with good food, good wine and good company. Lauryn Davey is making her mark in athletics - but needs sponsors

Ammanford-based Lauryn Davey is making a major mark in the world of Welsh athletics. At just 16, she is the best all-round athlete of her age in Wales. She's chalking up Welsh championship victories and has been honoured by her club, the Carmarthen Harriers. Lauryn's been earmarked as a future international star, but knows the road to the big championships is difficult, demanding and expensive. Ammanford businessman and well-known comic entertainer Phil Evans has launched a campaign to get cash backers for Lauryn's athletics career. "Everyone in the area is hugely proud of her achievements in athletics to date," said Phil. "But we also want to see her go on and do bigger and better things.
