New 'Back to Work' project launched in valleys
People living in the Amman and Gwendraeth valleys are being invited to volunteer for the Debt and Benefit Back to Work project, funded through the Welsh Government Outcomes Fund, Deprived Area Fund and Carmarthenshire County Council.
The Project has recently launched in the Gwendraeth valley, after huge success in the Amman valley.
The existing staff and volunteers can offer free and confidential support to residents who may have debt and benefit issues, or are looking to return to work in one form or another.
The aim is for the project to be a volunteer led support service, engaging with residents to encourage general volunteering and up-skilling. It is hoped the project will encourage more people to move back into employment, therefore tackling domestic debt, economic inactivity and child poverty.
Communities First Volunteer Development Worker Kathryn Cook said: “We are looking for volunteers who want to help others and give something back to their community.
“As a reward, all volunteers can access free training, support with their debt and benefit, and will be offered experiences to develop a better chance of gaining long-term employment in the future. All travel expenses are paid for, and you will receive recognition for the work you are doing.”
The project works closely with Communities First partnerships, community groups and voluntary and statutory service providers to create a network of support for those suffering with debt problems, helping them to access benefits and providing them with opportunities to train for new skills.
Anyone living in the Amman and Gwendraeth valleys is welcome to volunteer; whether for two hours a month, or two full days a week.
The project wants to engage with volunteers across all of the wards, regardless of your circumstances.
Alternatively, if you are struggling with your debt and/or benefit issues, please get in touch as we are on hand to help. Contact us on 01269 596821, or call into our office at Unit 5, Llys Glas, Pantyffynnon for a chat.
