Join the Great Bin Bypass

Residents in Carmarthenshire are being urged to take part in the Great Bin Bypass and reduce their rubbish.
Carmarthenshire County Council and Waste Awareness Wales are supporting the European Week for Waste Reduction from November 20 to 28.
Householders are being encouraged to try and reduce their waste as much as possible as not only will it help the environment but it will also save them money too.
Waste Awareness Wales’ Georgina Taubman said: “The Great Bin Bypass is not about stopping shopping or about sacrificing your luxuries in any way. It’s about thinking about whether you need to buy something, using it as long as you can, then, if appropriate, passing it on to someone who can make use of it instead of just throwing it away.”
In Carmarthenshire we are now recycling almost 45 per cent of our household waste – but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t think about what we throw away.
Council sustainability officer Tina Brice said: “Because we are recycling more than ever before it would be easy to assume that we don’t need to worry about our rubbish. However thinking carefully about what we buy and producing less waste in the first place is actually much better than recycling it.
“The best thing you can do with your unwanted items is to give them to someone else or donate them to charity. If they are broken, why not see if you can repair them instead of buying new?”
