Carmarthenshire 'social' back to normal

Most of Carmarthenshire County Council’s social care services are back to normal with the improvement of weather conditions.
4x4 vehicles are still being used in difficult and hard to reach areas, although conditions on many roads are now improving.
Most of the county’s day centres, day clubs and luncheon clubs for older people have re-opened, with the exception of Llandovery, Llys Yr Ysgol and Llys Y Dderwen luncheon clubs, and Whitland Day Club.
Day and respite centres for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs are also back to normal, with the exception of Ammanford Social Activity Centre, on Manor Road, which has frozen pipes.
Community meals and domiciliary care services are running as usual, with delays in some areas due to slow moving traffic.
Home care staff have taken on additional services to support day centres, including providing lunch calls to clients whose day centres are still closed, and responding to calls made through the Telecare service in some areas.
Council-run residential homes are open and running as normal, and the authority continues to keep in close contact with independent sector care homes to ensure they have no difficulties.
Cllr Pat Jones, executive board member for health and social care, said: “Thankfully we seem to be over the worst of the bad weather and we are seeing services getting back to normal.
“We still have some closures, and are experiencing slight delays in some areas, although we expect that with these will also resume normal service shortly.
“Our staff continue to show incredible commitment to their jobs, and have ensured the most vulnerable people in Carmarthenshire are being cared for whether they live at home, or in our residential homes.”
