A Welsh Dresser is like a personal museum, a place to display old and new, side by side. Things are added and changed and others stay the same through the generations. Each dresser tells the story of its owners. Hywel Dda University Health Board’s preparation to introduce Midwifery Led Units at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen and at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest has been supported by an expert midwife over the past few months. Maggie Davies, Consultant Midwife at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University HB, has more than 40 years of experience and has been on hand to provide expert advice and support to midwives working in Hywel Dda. Head of Midwifery and Women’s Health, Catherine Cotter, said: “Midwife Led Units are designed for women who want to deliver in a homely and relaxed atmosphere whilst being cared for by midwives who are experts in normal births and throughout the process Maggie’s insight and experience in introducing Midwife Led Units has been invaluable to us during our planning and preparation. Tourists, visitors and residents are being reminded that the British Red Cross Summer Service is operating seven days a week from Tenby Hospital. The service was successfully piloted over weekends and bank holidays last summer and this year is also operating during the week. British Red Cross use a group of skilled individuals experienced in providing first aid at public events to give top quality care to people visiting the hospital. Over 50 people have already benefited from the free service so far this year. Nigel Davies, senior services manager for the Red Cross, said: “The service is being well received by locals and holidaymakers and we are happy to provide this additional services over the summer.” The Red Cross summer service is just one option if you are feeling unwell. The Choose Well campaign uses a colour-coded thermometer to help people link symptoms to the services and support that is right for their need. Brass Bands from Ystradgynlais and Cwmtawe will be among the first competitors to take the stage when competitions begin in earnest at the Carmarthenshire National Eisteddfod's pink Pavilion tomorrow morning (Saturday). The Brass Bands Section 4 competition will be first up on the main stage. They will be competing for cash prizes and the Ivor Jarvis Cup.
