Solicitors gear-up for fund-raising bike ride

Staff at West Wales solicitors Hains and Lewis are getting on their bikes in aid of three charities. The solicitors, based at Haverfordwest, Carmarthen and Narberth, will be organising a charity bike ride on Sunday, September 30. The event is being organised by Angela Killa, senior assistant solicitor at Carmarthen. It will raise funds for Women’s Aid, Ty Hapus and Brain Tumour UK. Cardigan drop-in clinics for flu jabs

As the winter months approach again it is important for people to start thinking about getting their seasonal flu jab. To help their patients access this year’s vaccine Ashleigh Surgery & Cardigan Health Centre will be running drop in clinics for their registered patients at Cardigan Swimming Pool Hall on 1st, 2nd, 8th & 9th October 2012. Swansea ready for Festival time

This year’s Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts gets underway at venues across the city on 4 October. BBC National Orchestra of Wales will perform Elgar’s Cello Concerto with Julian Lloyd Webber ; Chloë Hanslip joins the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and the Festival welcomes back pianist Freddy Kempf to perform a programme with a Russian flavour with the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. Amman’s KAOS to perform in China

Amman’s KAOS to perform in China (From South Wales Guardian) East meets West when members of an Amman Valley youth circus group perform in front of thousands of people in China. The performance will be part of a celebration of a future twinning between Carmarthen and Xiangyang. A crew of ten people (stage crew and performers) from Organised KAOS – a social enterprise based in Gwaun Cae Gurwen – have been invited to perform in the Xiangyang Zhuge Liang Culture Tourism Festival on Wednesday, September 26.

Help needed for Carmarthenshire dormouse survey

People are needed to help the Carmarthenshire Biodiversity Partnership with a nutty autumn survey. The partnership wants to find out as much as possible about the rare and secretive dormouse. They need lots of people to help in the annual search for signs of one of Carmarthenshire’s most special mammals. Like the dormouse immortalised in Alice in Wonderland, dormice spend a lot of time asleep - over three-quarters of their lifetime - and are rarely seen. To track down where they are found it is best to look for signs of their favourite food – hazelnuts. Dormice leave very distinctive gnaw marks on the shells, different from other mice or voles, there is aleaflet available to help identify dormouse nuts. People need to look for the nibbled nuts in a hazel-rich wood or hedgerow and let the Partnership know what they find. They are especially keen to find out if dormice live in the Ammanford area. Your chance to Meet the Health Board – Llanelli and Burry Port

People in the Llanelli, Burry Port and Cardigan areas are being urged to attend the latest Meet the Health Board events to find out more about Your Health Your Future – Consulting Our Communities. The drop-in events are being held between 2pm and 7.30pm in Burry Port Memorial Hall on Tuesday October 2 and The Guildhall Cardigan on Thursday October 4. They have been organised by Hywel Dda Health Board so that members of the public can find out more about their proposals to improve health services in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. The aim is to provide the highest quality healthcare in the most appropriate setting, as close to home as possible, at the time it is needed and with improved outcomes for patients. Senior health board staff will be in attendance at the events in order to have one-to-one discussions with people. There will also be a number of stands with information on local healthcare services.
