Back on Olympics duty in London this weekend. Covering the traithlon in Hyde Park and the men's 20K walk in The Mall yesterday. Today, it's the woman's marathon, starting and finishing on The Mall.

The man who made Dai Green “reluctantly” jump a hurdle at the age of 11 at Coedcae School will be at the Olympic 400-metre hurdle final cheering his protégé on in the event dubbed the “man killer”. Former school PE teacher Mike Walters, now retired, said: “I can hardly believe I will be there to see the culmination of all Dai’s hard work after all these years.” Mike said he had always, because of his passion for sport, visited championships the world over and made many friends along the way. “Amazingly, some months ago some American friends I met on my travels called me up at my Scotland home and offered me a ticket for the games. I asked what event and when they told me the 400-metres hurdle final I nearly fell over in shock.” Mike has arranged to meet up with Dai’s parents and brothers at the post-event Red Bull hospitality tent to celebrate what Mike is convinced will be golden celebration for Dai. Further consultation is underway on a proposal which would help to stop alcohol-related anti-social behaviour in an area of Llanelli. The Community Safety Partnership, with the support of the police, is looking at introducing the county’s first Designated Public Place Order (DPPO) in Carmarthenshire. It follows a request from the Glanymor and Tyisha Safer Communities Action Group who are concerned about anti-social behaviour incidents when those responsible are, or have been, drinking alcohol. Public consultation was initially carried out in November last year and all those that responded supported the proposal. The town council and licence holders within the proposed area were also asked for their views. The partnership is now consulting with the public again as part of the legislative process. An exciting £1,000 musical bursary prize will be launched next month (September) to honour the man known as Llanelli’s Mr Music, Gethin Hughes MBE. It will be the biggest prize of its kind on offer in Wales and the aim will be to find the very best young musical talent in Llanelli.  The prize is the brainchild of Cor Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas, a close friend of the late Mr Hughes. "Gethin was a great pal and a long-serving accompanist for Cor Meibion Llanelli," said Mr Thomas. "We travelled the world to concerts and festivals and Gethin was famous the world over for being a real character and a wonderful ambassador for Llanelli. "Gethin made an outstanding contribution to music in Llanelli and in Wales. It is wonderfully fitting that we should honour his memory and celebrate his life with a musical bursary prize.
