A meeting is being called with objectors to discuss road safety strategy on the A48 Pont Abraham to Cross Hands Road with Assembly Ministers and Carmarthenshire County Council representatives. The County Council’s Executive Board are looking to achieve the implementation of appropriate safety improvements on this stretch of trunk road and address the objectors concerns of the inconvenience of banning right turns and U-turns. They are inviting AM’s Rhodri Glyn Thomas and Helen Mary Jones to meet objectors with them before moving forward. The County Council has been asked and has started the process of making Traffic Orders to introduce the safety measures as they relate to roads which join the A48 between Pont Abraham and Cross Hands. To achieve the safety improvements on the road which is managed by the Trunk Roads Agency a number of Traffic Regulation Orders will have to be made which normally would be the preogative of the Assembly. Residents in Talog are being urged to swap their unwanted items in a Bring and Take community skip day. The event, organised by Tidy Towns as part of the European Week of Waste Reduction, is being held on Thursday (November 25) at the YMCA village hall. Residents will be able to take along any unwanted household items and swap them with other items already left. A skip will also be available for householders to take along other waste items unsuitable for swapping. The skip will be there from 10am to 3pm but once full no other items can be accepted. Tidy Towns and Keep Wales Tidy are working with the newly-established Keep Talog Tidy group. Unfortunately the following items cannot be accepted: paint, tyres, chemicals, batteries, gas bottles, asbestos, fridges and freezers, large electrical items, oil, commercial construction waste or trade waste. Some well known faces from Carmarthenshire will be locked up on Wednesday to help sufferers of domestic abuse. A mobile cell will be set up in Nott Square, Carmarthen, and some high profile people will be arrested by police and held captive until they raise their bail money using their mobile phone. The ‘Jail for Bail’ event has been organised by the Carmarthenshire Domestic Abuse Forum to mark White Ribbon Week. All the money raised will be used to help sufferers of domestic violence. In celebration of this year’s Make a Difference Day, volunteers from the community of Pantyffynnon went digging. In collaboration with Wrenvale Nurseries, Communities First Pantyffynnon organised this event to highlight the importance volunteering can make to the community, and to the lives of the people who volunteer. According to The Institute of Volunteering Research, volunteering currently adds huge value to the economy with an estimated contribution annually of £22.5billion, and a total contribution of 1.9 billion volunteer hours.
