Vintage tea party planned for Llangunnor
Residents of Yr Aelwyd Sheltered Housing Complex in Llangunnor will be sharing a vintage tea party with children from the local primary school and volunteers from the Retired and Senior Volunteers Programme (RSVP) on Thursday 4th October at 10am.
The party guests will share stories about childhood and learn about one another’s favourite foods and games – as well as enjoying old fashioned cakes and getting involved in reminiscence and digital storytelling.
The event has been organised to launch RSVP’s Welcome Friends Project.

Welcome Friends will signpost older people to interests and activities in their area; in addition, where needed, volunteers will support isolated people to go out to their new activities, building confidence first through home visits (transport for short trips to activities may be possible).
RSVP will also set up social activities such as reminiscence or craft groups.
Project Co-ordinator for Carmarthenshire, Anne May, says “We want older people to get involved in activities of their choice outside the home, and as a consequence, meet new people, or revive old acquaintanceships and friendships which may have been lost over the years….”
RSVP is the retirement arm of Community Service Volunteers, a national and international charity encouraging people to volunteer in their communities.

Welcome Friends is funded for five years in Carmarthenshire, as well as RCT, Blaenau Gwent and Pembrokeshire, by Big Lottery from its AdvantAGE fund.
In September, Anne and volunteers set up a reminiscence group in Yr Aelwyd, giving residents and people from the local community an opportunity to record their individual stories and personal experiences of life in Carmarthenshire. A volunteer has been recording people’s stories through conversation, photographs and digital media. Materials gathered will be used to create a display and feedback session at the tea party.
Coucillor Tegwen Devichand 50+ Champion for Carmarthenshire and RSVP’s Operational Manager for Wales, Natasha John, will be opening the event.
