'Long arm' of the internet sees missing charity wristbands returned to hotel

Image
Brecon landlord Les Rees didn’t have to resort to the long arm of the law when charity wristbands went missing from The George Hotel in Brecon. Some speedy work on social media publicised the fact the Help for Heroes/Welsh Guards wristbands had been taken from the bar area. “We have you on closed circuit TV (CCTV),” was the message from Mr Rees to the culprits. Within 24 hours the wristbands were returned to the hotel. “They were returned with an apology and a suitable donation to charity,” said Mr Rees, general manager at the Evan-Evans Brewery hotel. “I’d like to think that it was a bit of a prank which went wrong. “Whatever the case, they have been returned to the bar area and we can continue our fundraising efforts.” Mr Rees said he was very proud of the wristbands appeal at The George. “Over the last three years we have raised nearly £2500 with our wristband appeal for Help the Heroes and the Welsh Guards. “We are very proud of the fact that we have on display in the bar a frame...

Snub for Healing The Wounds charity

Image
Healing The Wounds, the Welsh charity dedicated to helping victims of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has received another snub from the Help for Heroes charity. Help for Heroes has turned down a grant request from the Bridgend-based charity. “We probably shouldn’t be too surprised,” said the founder and executive director of Healing The Wounds, Kevin Richards (pictured above). “We have had plenty of discussions with Help for Heroes before about the way funds are allocated to Wales and our hopes were fairly slim when we submitted the grant application. “There is a major identity problem within Wales over what the two charities do and I have known some people to get us confused with Help for Heroes. “We are a very different type of charity. “Help for Heroes operates on a UK-wide level and only pays lip service to Wales. It also works closely with the Ministry of Defence, which means it is often filling in gaps in MoD requirements. “Help for Heroes, as a charity, also draws the lin...

Welsh armed forces charity wins battle

The Welsh charity dedicated to servicemen and women has won an important battle in its campaign to win more investment for Wales. Healing The Wounds has been waging an important fight with the Help for Heroes (H4H) charity. And today Healing The Wounds welcomed the decision by H4H to change its policy to ensure cash raised in Wales is spent on Welsh Armed forces. “It’s no secret that we have been having something of a fight with H4H over the way money is allocated to Wales,” said Kevin Richards, Director of Healing the Wounds, the appeal fund which aims to provide a facility within Wales for the treatment of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and a convalescent home for the Armed Forces. “Our focus as the Healing The Wounds charity is to raise money within Wales so that it can be spent in Wales, to make sure that our brave servicemen and servicewomen are treated close to home. “The H4H charity has built up a huge charitable fund-raising effort in recent years and we have tried very ...
