Customer Services staff at Carmarthenshire County Council have organised five days of events to mark National Customer Services Week. Staff at Carmarthenshire Direct, which has recently achieved a Customer Service Excellence award from the Cabinet Office, have a series of events organised from Monday October 4 to Friday October 8. Customer Care Champion Cllr Kevin Madge will officially open Customer Service Week in Carmarthen Customer Service Centre on Monday morning and will spend time shadowing Customer Service Centre staff throughout the week. During the week, staff will wear ‘National Customer Service Week’ Shoulder Sashes to promote the celebration. Other events include Customer Services Managers ‘going back to the floor’, customer service quizzes, a charity raffle with prizes donated by Managers, and a non uniform day to raise funds for MIND. Carmarthenshire Direct has been awarded a national Customer Excellence Standard for its first class service. The new award, which replaces the Chartermark scheme, aims to make a real difference to public service users by encouraging organisations to focus on their customers’ needs and preferences. It has been developed by the Government to offer public services a practical tool for driving customer-focused change within their organisations. A statement on the award reads: “The foundation of this tool is the Customer Service Excellence standard which tests in great depth those areas that research has indicated are a priority for customers, with particular focus on delivery, timeliness, information, professionalism and staff attitude.
